Neon Green (2005 Girls), warming up pre-game Welcome

Welcome! As we transition out of the Fall Season and into winter training, the Holidays, and soon 2017, we
have much to celebrate. It has been a busy time for our Club, and we hope that you will find the updates,
news, and information below informative.
Rochelle Hearns and Russ Magoon recently
drafted and released a set of milestones and
goals for the boys programs, including specific
objectives across a 2- and 5-year horizon. This is
part of a concentrated effort to align and
improve both the boys and girls soccer
experience as part of THUSC, and executed the
Club’s Vision, Mission, and Strategies for
Success, which were adopted earlier this Fall.
Look for more news and announcements on
program milestones in the near future.

As many of you know, Rose City Futsal will be opening its West location in Tigard starting in
January. The THUSC Board has been in contact with the owners to learn more about the facilities.
We are currently exploring sensible ways to leverage Rose City West as a resource for player
development, and will provide updates when or if they emerge.
Be nationally recognized as the Oregon club most effective in producing youth soccer players
who are technically prepared for the game, who approach the game with creativity and
integrity, and as such are equipped to face life challenges.
As was announced at the All-Club Meeting, we have entered into a
partnership with the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), a national nonprofit dedicated to developing Better Athletes, Better People.
Through resources, workshops, content development, and functional
tools for coaches, parents, and athletes Alliance staff will work with
THUSC to help create the optimal playing environment for its
athletes.
PCA’s 3 Guiding Principles are:
1) Filling the Emotional Tank: Do players feel connected to the team?
2) ELM Tree of Mastery: Are players constantly improving?
3) Honoring the Game: Are players proud to play for this team?
Look for news and announcements on upcoming workshops for Coaches and Parents soon!
THUSC is excited to partner with Rapinoe FC to host a one day
performance training event – open to both male and female
players - this upcoming January. Please see the
announcement on the following pages.

To create educational opportunities for players ages 7-19 through the game of soccer in a
safe and competitive environment. Offer holistic soccer programs that focus on
development of tactical, physical, psychological, and technical skills of the individual player
first and then the team. Create a physically and emotionally motivating environment by
promoting integrity, responsibility, discipline, and respect for all players, coaches, leaders,
and parent members.
Several THUSC players have recently been recognized nationally:
First, Emma Hinson (Jesuit High School, Crossfire United Onyx ECNL) was recently selected for the 2016 Girls
All-American game and was featured in USA Today’s High School Sports ALL-USA Performances of the Week
roundup. She played varsity for 3 years for Jesuit and only allowed 11 goals in her HS career. During that
time frame she had 42 shutouts in 52 games - all are state records. She plans to continue playing soccer at
St. Louis University next Fall.
In addition, earlier this year, Madison Ellsworth attended the U-16 Girls National Team Camp in May, and
this October Mia Palmer played with the U-18 Women’s National Team in Northern Ireland at the 2016
Women’s International Cup, where they finished second.
Congratulation to the many THUSC teams and players
that participated in the President’s or Founders Cup
competitions this Fall. Results of note include the
following:

THUSC 04B United Chromium Black - Quarter-finalist
THUSC 03G United Sapphire - Second in their group

THUSC is excited to bring on several additional coaches this Fall to support our teams. This Fall, THUSC has
brought on Noeleen Conway who has been a THUSC coach in the past, former Portland Thorn and current
Houston Dash player Becca Moros, and Portland State Alumni Tamia Hasan and Beka Lofstedt. In addition,
Juan Flores – a recent University of Oregon graduate – has joined the staff specifically to support the boys
teams.
Rochelle and the Directors are continuing to identify and recruit coaching talent to serve through the Spring
and beyond. If you haven’t already, please welcome our new coaches and introduce yourself.
Mel Langley, Assistant Director of Coaching, and Development
Director, recently received her United States Soccer Federation
(USSF) “A” License.
This represents one of the highest accreditations available in
Coaching, and is oriented around the development of elite youth
players. The requirements to secure an “A” license include four
separate meetings across three development periods – lasting
anywhere from 5-6 months - and a final assessment and evaluation.
We’re proud of Mel’s accomplishment and dedication, and look
forward to further development of our coaching staff.
