The Strategy is designed to improve services for disabled children and young
people and their families. The key information used to set the priorities recognised

the differential impact of disability on the groups above. The priorities were also
informed by a consultation on the draft strategy and a review of child disability
services. Parents were involved in these activities and are now part of the Strategy
Group. The attached briefing paper summarises the findings of the consultation
process. The Key Findings of the initial research are also attached.

The impact of the Strategy on all the above should be positive by furthering

What work have you already done to improve any of the above?
Established subgroups to cover each of the five themes above.
Parents are now part of the Strategy Steering Group and as members of the
sub groups.
Appropriate strategic leads in place
Different agencies are identified to take a lead
Parents have been trained to act as representatives on the Strategy
Steering Group September 2010 and are now supported by Parent Carer
Forum Support Worker. The benefits of this training are already being seen
as parents are now active members of the groups above.

Section 5 - Monitoring arrangements:
Please explain the arrangements in place (or those which will be put in place) to monitor
this function, service, policy, procedure, strategy, plan or project:
Monitoring arrangements: The implementation of the strategy will be
supported by the development of an Action Plan. The delivery of the action
plan will be monitored by the CYPP Disability Strategy Steering Group who

will report to the Children Young Peoples Partnership through the Children
in Need Planning Group (see Terms of Reference attached). This ensures
that the Strategy links into the broader plans and strategies of the Authority
in particular the Childen and Young People’s Plan and Health, Social Care
and Well being Strategy.
The Strategy Steering Group will take the role of Monitoring and Evaluating
the impact of the Strategy and its Action Plan.
The reporting and meeting arrangements for the Strategy Steering Group
are detailed in the Terms of Reference attached.
