Membership “Nominations Now Open”
The game is calling on Aboriginal and Torres Straits Islander (Indigenous) community
representatives to nominate for Membership on the Australian Rugby League Indigenous
Council (ARLIC).
If you are passionate about Rugby League at all levels, interested in providing direction and
guidance to the administration on issues pertaining to Indigenous Australians and their
needs, and committed to making a difference in the community, then we are interested in
hearing from you.
Please read the following information package and complete the enclosed nomination form
by close of business Wednesday 27 June 2012.
Completed nominations are to be sent to the NRL, attention Indigenous Community
Program Manager, Rugby League Central, Driver Avenue, Moore Park NSW 2021 or Locked
Bag 5000, Sydney NSW 2021. Alternatively they can be emailed to

Australian Rugby League Indigenous Council (ARLIC)
Established as a key objective of Rugby League’s 2008-09 Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP),
the Australian Rugby League Indigenous Council (ARLIC) acts as the formal Reconciliation
Action Plan (RAP) Working Group for the game of Rugby League. It oversees the
implementation of the RAP, ensures that views and ideas of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander (Indigenous) peoples are incorporated from across the game into all Rugby League
policies and procedures and ensures all relevant opportunities are available to Indigenous
Australians.
Role of the Council
ARLIC acts as a whole of game reference point for all Indigenous Rugby League matters,
provides the game with important advice and expertise in promoting cultural awareness and
understanding of Indigenous-specific issues and proactively supports Indigenous
involvement in the game at all levels.
The ARLIC:
 Provides strategic advice and recommendations, to all key stakeholders within the game
 Supports increased levels of Indigenous participation in all facets of the game with a
particular focus on youth, women/girls, referees and administrators

Supports pathways for Indigenous youth with an increased emphasis on mentoring
programs
Supports programs and proposals that utilise Rugby League in building community
capacity
Acts, when requested, as an independent arbiter to help resolve disputes involving
Indigenous bodies or individuals within the game
Role of Individual Council Members






Promote the success of the ARLIC
Represent the ARLIC at relevant events and functions
Exercise independent judgement
Exercise reasonable care, skill and diligence
Maintain ethical standards and behaviour
Attend all Council meetings and functions (a minimum of 4 meetings per year)
Membership
Membership of the ARLIC is made up of 8 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community
representatives including a minimum of 2 female members. Council meetings are also
attended by representatives from each jurisdiction of the game. The tenure of each
community position is 24 months (2 Years fixed term) and completely voluntary. Travel and
expenses will be covered for all meetings and selected events where deemed necessary.
Process
All completed nominations are to be submitted by close of business 27 June 2012. The
game’s management will work in consultation with the Australian Rugby League
Commission (ARLC) to make recommendations for individuals that have met all criteria
outlined for final approval by the ARLC.
Notification
Successful nominees will be notified of their appointment by 3 August 2012 and will
commence their Membership duties effective immediately.
