fuel usage as you drive. This will allow you to see what adjustments in your driving style can be
made to actually raise or lower your Average Fuel Economy (AVG).
Your goal is to bring up your AVG reading
as high as possible. To do this, try and

to gauge how much fuel your vehicle will
use each hour of driving. The Trip Fuel Cost (TFC) gauge will show you the total cost of the fuel

Using the $/HOUR parameter in the CURRENT trip computer can be very useful and help you to “fine
tune” your driving technique for maximum profit.

by the hour and by the mile, achieve the maximum amount of profit while driving. These features include a set
of real-time digital gauges dedicated to showing you your actual profit or loss as it relates to your fuel usage and
driving style.
The Answer to “What is the best speed to drive?”
The question, “What is the best speed to drive?”, comes up often. It is common
knowledge that driving slower increases fuel economy and reduces your costper-mile. If this were the only thing to consider, driving slower would be the best
thing to do. In the real world, you get paid by the mile, so going slower reduces
the amount you are paid for the item you are driving. Since fuel-economy drops
very quickly as your speed goes up, there will be an “optimum” speed where your
rate minus your fuel cost will give you the most income-per-hour. Although speed
is not the only thing affecting this, it is the dominant one.

To get started, navigate to the
CURRENT Trip compute screen. Use
the upper left or upper right function
buttons to select the $/Hour parameter.

With the $/Hour trip computer displaying,
begin driving. Once you reach a stable
speed, push the lower right function
button RESET

Continue driving at a steady speed.
Wait for the reading to stabilize. This will
usual happen in a mile or two.

Your maximum hourly profit will change due a number of factors, such as those
listed to the right. Although, not a complete list, these factors will have an effect
over the “optimum” speed in which to drive to maximize your hourly profits.

before, let the numbers stabilize.

The Profit/Loss feature built into your ScanGauge combines your
reimbursement rate, fuel cost-per-gallon/litter and your actual fuel economy to give you direct feedback of your
income-per-hour, while you drive. This Patent-Pending measurement appears as the digital gauge $PH, and as
the parameter $/HOUR within the Trip Computer functions.

Adjusting your speed, gearing and other factors you control will effect your income-per-hour reading. The $PH
gauge can be used to find the maximum income point for the current driving conditions.
You can also use TRIP A or B to find the best conditions for an entire section of a route. For instance,
if one part of the route takes you through the mountains, reset Trip A or B at the start of that section.
When you have passed through this section, you can then view what your income was for that section.

As you repeat these steps under different driving conditions, you will begin to get good at predicting
the best speed, and/or gearing needed to find the optimum conditions to maximize your profits.
The next time you are driving that section, try different speeds, gearing, boost, etc. and see if you
make more or less per hour.
ScanGauge can’t automatically give you a raise, but it will give you the tools necessary to
take control of your own income potential. Use the ScanGauge to find the optimum driving
technique so you can maximize your profits.

It’s important to note - The $PH gauge and $/Hour trip parameter use an 8 second
smoothing average to reduce the effects of minor, short-term changes.
ALWAYS REMEMBER - Driving comes first. Use the ScanGauge as you would any other
gauge. Use short glances to get readings or change displays, do not fixate on the gauge and
do not ignore changing traffic and/or road conditions.
