A steady start to the game saw two evenly matched teams play some great football. Chaddy Park showed
displays of the great passing work we have seen them perform week after week as they made several attempts
on the Walshaw goal, with winger Ryan Salloway shaving the post. Likewise Walshaw made a few attacks
prompting Jordan Davenport to make some important well timed tackles and kept Ellis Jenner on his toes in
order to prevent a goal. Chaddy Park managed to break the deadlock as a scramble in the box was cleared but
only as far as Adam Fisher who looked set to chip it back in to the Walshaw box. Adam aware of a better
opportunity, latched on to the unmarked Connor Stansfield on the half way line. He delivered a measured
pass to Connor who took a touch to control the ball before letting loose a screaming shot that had it not taken
a deflection of the cross bar would have ripped through the net! What a way to open your Chadderton Park
goals account. A few minutes of play remained before the referee blew for half time.
The second half began with Walshaw refusing to accept Chaddy Park’s lead and pressed us into our own half.
As a result and from some poor marking on our behalf, allowed the Walshaw striker to hit a ball from the
edge of the area which Ellis could only deflect on to the cross bar and into the net. Which let Walshaw were
back in the game. Chaddy Park were determined to keep their unbeaten record in the league and after some
well worked passing out of defence the ball was slotted to Matthew Cunningham just in the Walshaw half.
Carving his way through the Walshaw defenders like a hot knife through butter, Matthew found himself
inside the penalty box, looked up before placing the ball firmly in the back of the net.
The battle for victory continued as both teams tried to inflict another goal on their opponents, Sam Carr
continuing his “David and Goliath” battle with the Walshaw left back, who towered over Sam. In the end a
determined effort from Jordan Davenport, Connor Stansfield and goalkeeper Ellis Jenner formed a defensive
brick wall that refused to let anyone through.
Saturday’s game was great entertainment for managers, parents and fans and showed grit, determination and
at time flashes of pure talent. A good all round performance, especially when we had a player away on
holiday and three other players well under a 100% due to illness. Chaddy Park are a force to be reckoned
with!
Final score : Walshaw Park 1 – 2 CPFC
