Session Plan
Key:
Goalkeeping
What do we want the children to achieve today?
To learn basic GK principles & use them correctly in a variable environment.
Organisation:
Each GK has their own goal. Work in pairs to serve the ball to each other
across area. GK’s use different serves (bounce, roll, soft, hard etc). If the ball
hits another pairs ball they should react to this.
Play with only 1 ball - GK’s now look to score by throwing/rolling the ball into
another goal. This can be done using any type of serve. A time limit should
be put on the keepers decision. If the ball is saved and palmed out(they can
palm into another goal to score) the GK’s can react to get the ball.
STEP:
Size and Shape – Bigger/smaller goals. Change distance between goals.
Task – Change in role from GK to scorer & reactions to rebounds. If GK
success is low – limit which goals they can ‘shoot’ at.
Equipment – Different sized footballs.
People – Introduce player into the middle to act as striker.
Links to 4 Corners:
Technical: Basic GK Skills – set position in line of ball, choice of save (cup, W,
collapsing/diving save etc. Movement of feet across goal.
Physical: Strong wrists to deflect ball away from goal. Speed and strength to
reset & react to rebounds.
Psychological: Not second guessing attempt at goal and reacting
as shot is taken.
Social: Recognising success/failure of other GK’s.
