Nutri-Chef is a fun game that creates awareness of the basic
nutrition requirements for healthy living. Given authentic
scenarios, players learn about the nutritional content of some
of their favourite foods. They will also engage in meal planning
to meet the nutritional needs of people from different age
groups, genders, lifestyles and medical conditions. There is also
a point-and-click game to teach about hygiene and safety, and
a mini-game to showcase grocery shopping habits. This simulated
environment facilitates immersive learning through gamification
and experience with relative ease. The heuristics involved through
experimentation will also ignite the interest in players to
further pursue knowledge in this field.

FAQS
What is Nutri-chef?
Nutri-chef is an interactive learning game on meal planning and nutrition. It also
encompasses learning about diet-related diseases, food safety, budgeting and shopping.
There are 9 chapters in total, with each chapter focusing on a different topic and mission.
Scores are given at the end of every chapter, and scores are summed up at the end of the
game. Teachers can either check the leader boards or an excel sheet to see all their students’
scores. Higher scores indicate that a student has made better decisions and lower scores
denote the opposite.
Who can use it?
This game is designed for students learning Food and Consumer Education (FCE) in the lower
secondary levels. However, any other students with an interest in FCE can play this game too.
Why should students use this?
Students will be able to learn and experiment as they play! Students should use this as it is a
fun and low-risk way of learning about food and nutrition, food safety, and budgeting.
Without physical or monetary constraints, students will be able to plan meals for various
interesting characters (all of whom have different needs), learn about food safety, go
shopping for groceries (while comparing the quality and prices of products simultaneously),
and learn to manage their budget as they go along.
Is it possible to capture the students’ scores?
Yes, simply contact us, and we will be able to extract your students’ scores for you. Scores
are saved in excel form for easy reading.
How can I use it in my teaching?
Nutri-chef is a supplement resource for student’s learning.
There are some ways of using this resource.
Teachers can choose to use it in class, during school hours, or have the students play the
game at home, outside school hours. They may play it in groups or individually.
Teachers can also choose to focus on chapters relevant to them such as meal planning
(choose between chapters 1 to 5) chapters 6 (food safety) and 8 (grocery shopping and
budgeting).
Nutri-chef can also be used as an assessment tool, to track each student’s progress over time.
For example, students can play it before the first FCE lesson, and play it at the last FCE lesson
to measure their learning and progress for the year.
Or teachers could even set aside class participation points (for example, 10% of their total
grade) for playing the game.
Therefore, teachers will be able to flexibly choose when to use this learning resource.
