The River Dee flows through the southern portion of the town, with lands to the west of Bridge
Street having been developed for passive recreation, including angling. Its undeveloped nature
and leafy setting gives the area a pleasant appearance.

Ardee has a distinctive medieval form including its linear street pattern running north to south,

Ardee* is the third largest town in County Louth, and is located at the intersection
of the N2 Dublin-Derry Road and the N52 Ardee-Nenagh Road. The town is directly
linked to the M1 Motorway via the N33. Ardee is traversed by the River Dee to the
south of the town. The population of Ardee has risen steadily from a figure of 3,568
in 2002 to 4,301 in 2006, and by 2011 the population was 5,216.
It is the policy of the Louth County Development Plan 2015-2021 to:
“To promote the town of Ardee as a prosperous and thriving local
development and service town for Mid-Louth and bordering areas of
Monaghan and Meath, where no individual or social group is excluded from
the benefits of development and where the principles of environmental,
economic and social sustainability including protection of the towns heritage
and the natural and built environment are enshrined....”
