“Sport inspires hope, instils discipline,
reduces depression and disease, raises
self-confidence, raises awareness, rallies
communities, defines nations, defies
gravity and denies prejudice”

The reality is that...
• Less than 1/3 of Australians are getting
enough physical activity to benefit their
health.
• This can lead to increased risks of chronic
disease and mental ill health, and cost the
Australian economy a total of $13.8 billion
each year.

Why…
• Demographic, generational and cultural
change is reshaping the way people spend
their leisure time.
• We are increasingly time poor, budgetconstrained and overwhelmed with new
forms of entertainment.
5

The game is changing
• Whilst many of us play traditional club
sport, it’s not the answer for everyone
• Personalised sport for health and fitness
• Extreme and alternative sport
• Aging and multicultural population

The game is changing
• More and more people are looking for
flexible, social and less structured ways to
get active
• People want opportunities that fit with
their lifestyle, rather than having to fit
their lifestyle around sport.
