The Best Action: Čakovec - Town of Pozoj The main idea of this action The features of the Best Action Conclusion THE BEST ACTION •The Central Coordinating Committee of the “Towns and Districts – Friends of Children” Action in 2004 launched an annual competition within the Action entitled “The Best Action” •This year (2016) we are celebrating the 12th anniversary of “The Best Action” THE AIM OF “THE BEST ACTION” Encouraging cities/towns and districts/municipalities to design and implement NEW and ORIGINAL activities with and for children THE PURPOSE OF THE BEST ACTION Building cooperation, mutual respect and tolerance among children and adults Encouraging a positive attitude towards natural and social environment THE SELECTION CRITERIA The Evaluation Committee has developed the methodology of The Best Action and is performing the selection of the actions registered for the competition PUBLIC RECOGNITION AND RANKS The Charter (the first rank award) – awarded to the best exemplary action performed The Praise (the second rank award) – awarded for a successful completion of actions that brighten and improve the lives of children in the cities/towns and districts/municipalities THE RESULTS OF “THE BEST ACTION” IN 12 YEARS OF THE COMPETITION LOCAL COMMUNITIES REALIZED OVER 300 ACTIONS THROUGHOUT CROATIA IN CHILDREN’S FAVOR. IMPLEMENTATION AREAS OF THE BEST ACTION CREATIVITY SPORTS HUMANITARIAN ACTIONS CHILDREN’S HEALTH AND SAFETY PREVENTION OF ADDICTION INTEGRATION OF CHILDREN WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES ECOLOGY PRESERVATION OF TRADITIONAL VALUES, CULTURAL AND NATIONAL HERITAGE INTERGENERATIONAL INTEGRATION THE BEST ACTION The Example of Good Practice: Čakovec - Town of Pozoj (Dragon) A fairytale about a good dragon Pozoj that saved the town of Čakovec once upon a time THE MAIN IDEAS OF THE ACTION ČAKOVEC - TOWN OF POZOJ WERE: To build a positive attitude towards work and learning, To develop skills for team work, To encourage tolerance for the differences among children (such as disability and social exclusion) To build empathy and social sensibility. HOW IT WORKED The action was implemented through 3 workshops aimed at exploring the dragon legend. The goals of the workshops were: Promotion of creativity, Encouraging social awareness, Learning about multimedia. In workshops 300 children were included (with 15 children with disabilities and 10 socially deprived children. THE RESULTS NAME THE DRAGON THAT SLEEPS UNDER ČAKOVEC CITY? SMAUG??? NO, IT’S POZOJ!!! CONCLUSION (I) There were lot of children included in this action which promoted: Creativity, Work and ecological awareness, Integral approach - considering the needs of the child on the whole, Tolerance and empathy for children with disabilities, Social inclusion - through teamwork, Equal opportunities. CONCLUSION (II): This ‟Best Action” has developed in children a sensibility for positive and responsible social actions in the community It was participatory and supported the voice of the child It is applicable to local policy and practice THE CHARTER (THE FIRST RANK AWARD) Thank you for your attention!
