On Monday 27th March Denbighshire Seniors played their first

On Monday 27th March Denbighshire Seniors played their first match of the 2017 season against
Cheshire Seniors at Leasowe Golf Club.
All the team members arrived in good spirts looking forward to a good test of golf from the Cheshire
Seniors side who always provide strong opposition. We had two players making their Seniors County
debut, Kevin Sykes and Keith Miller both from Wrexham Golf Club.
Upon arrival the weather was fine although a little chilly, not unexpected for the time of year, and
unlike previous years thankfully it remained dry throughout the day. The course was in good
condition and presented a testing challenge to all players.
After the morning greensomes Cheshire won three matches and Denbighshire won two matches
with one match halved. There were wins for the pairings of Adam Houston and Keith Miller who won
4&3 and Wes Jones and Mike Lowe who won 5&4, Paul Johns and Jonathan Tym managing a half
point. The match score was Cheshire 3 ½ Denbighshire 2 ½
When the afternoon better ball matches started both the weather and golf heated up, there were
some good performances from the Denbighshire side but sadly the afternoon result was a repeat of
the morning with Cheshire winning 3 matches and Denbighshire winning 2 matches with one match
halved. There were wins for Ray Ledsham and Karl Livingstone who won 2&1, Paul Johns and
Jonathan Tym who won 3&2 and Wes Jones and Mike Lowe who were after 9 holes were 5 down
managed a fantastic half.
With the afternoon matches carrying double points the final match result was Cheshire Seniors 10 ½
Denbighshire Seniors 7 ½ points
Players from both sides had a thoroughly enjoyable time, as always we received a great welcome
from the home side, the hospitality from Leasowe Golf Club was first class and the company was
great throughout the day.
We all left in good spirits and looking forward to the match next year and maybe a win?
