ROCKLIN ADULT SOFTBALL RULES
1. RULES – 2016 Amateur Softball Association rules govern play, with the following listed exceptions.
2. ELIGIBILITY - Players must be 18 to play. Once a player signs a roster, they must be released in writing by their
manager. Players cannot switch teams after the first three weeks. Players must participate in at least two league
games to be eligible for the playoffs. The league director reserves the right to move a team to a higher or lower
level league or remove a team from play if the leagues level of play does not fit that of the team.
3. ROSTERS - Roster size must be maintained at 12-16 (12-20 in Coed) players in players in. Rosters must be turned in at start
of 1st game to scorekeeper. Players can be added official roster at field up to third game. Rosters frozen after 3rd game.
4. GAME TIME - Game time is forfeit time (5 minute grace time for first game of night ONLY). A home team that does NOT have
8 players can start as visitors and bat, however if they do not have 8 players by time of last out, they forfeit. Teams forfeiting
more than one game will be fined $100 and banned from further play until that fee has been paid.
5. CONDUCT - All players shall abide by the Player's Code of Conduct. Team managers are responsible for the actions of their
players and spectators. Any player ejected from a game for any reason will be suspended for a minimum of one game
and their case will be reviewed for further disciplinary action.
6. PROTESTS - Protests shall be based on interpretations of rules only, and shall be made in accordance with the A.S.A. Rule
Book.In addition, protesting teams must submit a written protest request to the league director no later than 1pm the following
work day.
7. LINEUPS - A team may use the A.S.A. rule book, or choose to bat all players who are present. If batting everyone, a new player
may be added any time to the bottom of the lineup only. Teams MUST present a lineup card to the scorekeeper by game time
WITH FIRST AND LAST NAMES of all players.
8. PRACTICE - No batting practice is allowed between games. Infield practice of 3 minutes per team will be allowed only if there
is time before the official scheduled starting time.
9. TIME - The time limit for games is 55 minutes. No inning may start after the time limit has expired. All innings that start within
regulation time will be completed unless the home team is at bat with the lead in the game. At ANY time that the time limit has
been reached and a team has achieved a 12 run lead, the game will immediately stop, regardless of who is batting. In the event
of a tie game at the end of 55 minutes, the ASA tie breaker will be used to determine a winner.
10. PITCHING – All leagues will use an extended strike mat and the count will begin with 1 ball and 1 strike with one extra foul.
Height limit for pitching is minimum of 6’ and maximum of 10’. If an umpire calls an illegal pitch, there is no play, EXCEPT
if the batter swings at the pitch, it becomes live.
11. COURTESY RUNNERS - One courtesy runner of each gender per inning is allowed. Must be the last out of the same gender.
If a team goes through the batting order in the same inning, the original runner who was ran for previously in the same
inning may be ran for again.
12. PLAYER LEAVING - Any player who voluntarily leaves the game for any reason will be declared out each time his position in
the batting order is reached, only upon request of the defensive team. protest is valid only at the point of contention and is not
allowed if a pitch to the next batter has been thrown. Player(s) leaving the game does not constitute a legal protest. In the case
of an injured player, a substitute may enter the batting order in the player’s position.
13. EJECTION'S - Any team that falls below 8 players because of an ejection will be required to forfeit. Any ejected player's place
in the batting order will result in an automatic out.
14. HOME RUNS – Home runs by each team will be limited to 3, with a 1 to 1 equalizer rule to a maximum of 6. All excess home
runs will be outs. The equalizer rule means that a team can hit up to three (over the fence) home runs without penalty, but
may not go up by more than one home run after reaching 3. In this case, all additional (over the fence) homers are an out.
15. BATS – Will follow the ASA approved bat list! No bats on the ASA Banned bat list will be allowed. Umpires decision is final.

16. Altered Bats– Use of an altered bat in any league will constitute a minimum two(2) year suspension from all Rocklin Leagues
and possibility of life time ban for Player and manager of team, with the possibility of suspension from all GSAA leagues and
tournaments and having charges filed.
17. Coed Exceptions - Batting order must alternate gender. If a female leaves for any reason, her spot in the betting order wil
result in an automatic out each time she is scheduled to bat. Teams may not play with more men than women. Defense must
include two women in both infield and outfield, with the other being a pitcher or catcher. ASA Walk rule - With two outs ONLY,
a woman may choose to walk only if the male before her walked (must be declared before first pitch).
The “commit” line is used for Home Plate. All plays where the runner is past the commit line are force plays.
There are no tag plays beyond the commit line at home plate.Fielders may step on the plate or strike mat.
