The Rainbow Fish Retold by Tiarah Maund A long way out in the deep blue sea there lived a fish. But not just any fish, a Rainbow Fish. Down, down amongst the deep dark weeds there lived a fish. He was a Rainbow Fish. Rainbow Fish swam past his friends. His friends asked if he could play play with them. But Rainbow Fish just ignored his friends and swam past his friends. A little blue fish asked if he could have a glittering, shiny scale. Rainbow Fish got mad. Rainbow Fish said, “I give you one of my scales? Never!” From then on Rainbow Fish was lonely. When Rainbow Fish tried to play with his friends all the the fish swam past. He told the starfish but the starfish couldn’t help him. The starfish told Rainbow Fish to go to an octopus but not just any octopus, a wise octopus. “The wise octopus will show you the way to be happy.” Rainbow Fish started the journey. Then he was right at the dark cave. He swam closer. Two eyes caught him. The octopus came out of the cave and told Rainbow Fish to share. “This is the way to be happy?” Rainbow Fish asked himself, “But I cannot share,” he said. But the octopus had already gone. Then Rainbow Fish swam back to make some new friends. Then he felt a little touch of a fin. There was the little blue fish. He was back. Little blue fish asked if he could have one of the shiny glimmering scales. Rainbow Fish said, “Yes.” Little blue fish was happy. When Rainbow Fish handed the shiny scales out he felt a burst of happiness. Rainbow fish watched little blue fish for a while. The other fish saw little blue fish and Rainbow Fish shared all his shiny glimmering silver scales until all the shiny glimmering scales were gone. The Rainbow Fish soon felt at home.
