Description of HEI
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) was founded in 1934. It is
the leading institution of higher education and one of the main research
centers of Kazakhstan. The University is distinguished by the rich diversity
of its subject spectrum under offer. It has 14 functioning faculties, 20
research institutes and a techno-park. The University has partnership
relations with more than 400 HEIs in 35 countries worldwide. The
University is a member of the consortia of two International Networkbased Universities - the Network based University of SCO countries
and the Network-based Open University of CIS countries. These
projects are aimed at enhancing academic collaboration and
academic mobility, setting up united educational space for members of
the consortia to facilitate intercultural dialogue. KazNU is a member of the
IAU, EAU, WUC, Signatory of the Magna Charter Universitatum,
SEFI, IAESTE, Eurasia-Pacific UNINET and IREG.
KazNU successfully cooperates for many years with European university
partners in the EU projects. KazNU is the leader among the Kazakhstani
universities in realizing Tempus Projects. The University several times
acted as National Project Coordinator of Erasmus Mundus. Currently
University acts as a joint coordinator of two Erasmus Mundus projects.

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is highly interested in participating Erasmus+ Academic
Mobility Program for students and as well as for academic and non-academic staff under all
programs offered at our university in natural sciences, humanities
Academic mobility as an important constituent part of the internationalization is considered to
be one of the core issues of Al-Farabi KazNU's development strategy. Since 2010, when
our country joined Bologna Declaration we have been working on bringing our educational
programs into compliance with European standards, which will facilitate to increase
international dimension in our education and advance competitiveness of our teaching staff
and graduates by wider opening borders for them.
it will provide good opportunity to share knowledge, best expertise and increase recognition.
And for the University it will be the stepping stone in establishing cooperation which might
lead in the future to the development of joint degree programs and research projects.
For our outgoing participants, particularly, for postgraduate students, mobility is preferable in
terms of carrying out research within the topic of their final research work.
Mobility of academic and non-academic staff allows to enhance their professional skills,
share best expertise and contribute to networking.
