Triathlon ACT Junior Development Program Assistant Coaches

Triathlon ACT Junior Development Program
Assistant Coaches
ACT triathlon coaches, you have the opportunity to contribute to advancing the
development of junior triathlon in the ACT. The TACT Junior Development Program (JDP) is
for triathletes aged
12–19 years of age, who would like to be involved in the sport at a more competitive level.
The program consists of three squads:
- Junior Emerging Talent Squad (JETS)—athletes aged between 12–15 years
- Junior Development Squad (JDS)—athletes aged between 13–19 years
- Performance Squad (PS)—athletes aged between 15–19 years with a proven record of
achievement.
Assistant coach positions for the 2013/14 JDP are open for application.
As an assistant coach you will look after a specific squad and work with the squad members
and their home coaches to assist the athletes to develop and enhance their skills and
experience to compete to the best of their ability in triathlon, including potentially in ITU
junior elite level races. You may also have the opportunity to provide individual coaching to
squad athletes. The program will also provide you with personal development opportunities
to advance your coaching skills through mentoring, working with other squad coaches,
accompanying squad athletes to races and participating in the national development camp,
which provides exposure to national and world class coaches and athletes.
The ACT squad has forged a strong reputation for its unity and the professional attitude of
its members. You will play an essential role in maintaining this reputation.
The 2013/14 program runs from July to April. Squad training weekends will be held monthly
(races allowing). These will involve 3–5 sessions over the weekend covering the various
aspects of triathlon skills and knowledge development. The aim of the squad weekends is to
improve skills and introduce athletes to the training regime and skill levels required to
compete at higher levels. The squad will also undertake progression time trials throughout
the season.
As an assistant coach, you will be expected to attend and support squad athletes at local
TACT races and 1–2 squad ‘away’ races, in particular the Elite Energy Husky II race in
February 2014. You may also have the opportunity to accompany squad athletes competing
at the TA Super Sprint weekend in Runaway Bay in Queensland (held prior to the national
development camp).
In your application you will need to outline:
- your experience in or your potential to provide successful coaching of junior triathletes
- demonstrated ability to act as a role model for athletes
-
your understanding and knowledge of junior triathlon development, rules and trends
an appreciation for and understanding of the impact sport science and sport medicine
has in enhancing and sustaining athlete performance, training and well-being
your effective communication skills and an ability to develop close working relationships
with junior athletes
proven planning, organisational and management skills
a willingness to travel to junior triathlon events.
Assistant coaches will be required to sign and comply with a coaches code of conduct and
have or undergo a police check. Assistant coaches must also be a current TACT member.
Information about the JDP and application forms is available on the JDP general information
page and in the 2013/14 JDP policy on the TACT website. Applications close on 31 May
2013.
