Student Selection
Establish a well defined criteria
• Be at least 16 years of age by the first day of class;
• Behind in credits according to grade;
• Reside in service area
• Have not yet obtained a high school diploma or
GED;
• Have a minimum eighth (8th) grade reading level
as assessed by LACC through a programadministered examination and/or other multiple
measures, e.g., CST scores, CAHSEE, and
transcripts;

failure? How did it affect you, and what lessons did you learn?

Describe the world and/or community you come from. What are your
dreams and aspirations? What events, people, and/or experiences shaped
your vision of your future? Be as specific as possible.

Describe your strengths and weaknesses. How did they contribute to your
performance in high school? How will you approach your academic life
differently or similarly here at Gateway to College? What do you believe will
be the hardest hurdles for you to overcome here?
