DERBY BIKE MONTH, MAY 2017
Whether you bike to work or school; ride to save money or time; pump those pedals to preserve your
health or the environment; or simply to explore your community, Derby Bike Month is an opportunity to
celebrate the unique power of the bicycle and the many reasons we ride. May is I Bike Derby Month,
sponsored by the Derby Health Collaborative. The Derby community has so many great bike paths and
places to ride that we are celebrating with a number of activities during May. Dust off your bicycle and get
out and enjoy the wind in your face and the freedom that comes with riding, after all it’s healthy, it’s fun,
it’s trending.
(In case of inclement spring weather these events will be cancelled.)

Derby Gravel Grinder, May 21
Gravel riding is one of the fastest-growing styles of cycling, and for good reason: it takes riders off-road,
but not too far—which means the bikes are ready for anything, including washboards, single-track, bikepacking, and pannier-loaded errand runs. Gravel roads are also less trafficked, more scenic, and often a
little more technically challenging, which makes them a great change of pace if you’re used to
pavement. Join us for this first ever group gravel ride in Derby. Choose between an 11 mile or 24 mile
ride. (Both the Tour De Derby and Gavel Grinder will leave from High Park)
Dates/Times: May 21, 2:00 p.m.
Fee: FREE, but registered participants will be eligible for give-a-ways
