Winter Clothing
It’s that time of year when the weather begins to get chilly so please
ensure your child comes to school dressed for the weather. A jacket,
snow pants, boots, mitts and toque are all essential to staying warm
and healthy this winter. It is also a good idea to send an extra set of
clothing for your child to change into if they get wet outside at
recess.
Parent Teacher Interviews
There will be two nights of interviews this year. The interviews are
through drop-ins – no meeting needs to be scheduled.
On Wednesday, November 23 the teachers will be at the
Buffalo Lake Metis Settlement Gym from 4:30-7:30pm.
On Thursday, November 24 the teachers will be at
Caslan School from 4:30-7:30pm.
Please attend at a time that is convenient for you. This interview is an
extremely important opportunity for us to discuss what your child’s
strengths, struggles and next steps will be.
I look forward to meeting with each of you!
Sight Word Practice
Make sure that your child is practicing their sight words every night.
Flashcards were sent home for them to practice, along with a list of
different ways to practice them. Your child should know the first 30
words. The next list of words will be coming home soon!
October Perfect Attendance

following chart and take a look at the following newsletter pages for
some ideas about getting your child to bed on time.
Remembrance Day
On Tuesday, November 10, we will be having a Remembrance Day
ceremony at the school at 10:55am. Please join us for the
ceremony.
The grade ones will be presenting the following poem to the
veterans and visitors.
Please help your child practice the poem.
Little Poppy
Little poppy given to me,
Help me keep Canada Safe and free.
I'll wear a little poppy, as red as red can be,
To show that I remember those who fought for me.
Classroom Information
 Agendas:
The grade 1 class will be using agenda binders this year. Included inside their binder is
an agenda calendar that the students will write any upcoming information that their
families should know. A folder is also included and inside this folder the students will
put any papers to go home. Please empty these folders whenever papers come home.
This binder will also be used as communication between parents/guardians and the
teacher. There is room to write notes on the calendar, so please check for notes from
the teacher and leave your own for the teacher to read.
Please check the agenda every night, initial it and send it back with your child
every day.
 Classroom Behaviour:
Every day students fill out their behaviour “colour” on the stoplight in their agenda.
Green means they had an excellent day. Yellow means they had been given a few
warnings about their behaviour throughout the day. Red means the student had to go to
the office for their behaviour. Please check the binder every day to monitor your child’s
behaviour.
 Reading Logs:
Grade ones are encouraged to be reading at least 15 minutes per night.
In the binders that will be coming home there will be a BLUE reading log at the back.
There will also be white paper books in a book bag. Read the white books and return
them every day for new ones. Use the reading log to fill in the books that your child
reads, as well as, books you read with your child. Every reading log returned earns
golden buttons for prizes.
 Speaking:
All of the grade ones are expected to participate in “speaking” every week. Please see
the attached information on “speaking” (show and share).
 Library:
Please remember that library books are due Mondays!
Send back your child’s book each week and they will get the chance to sign out another
book to enjoy.
 Morning Snack:
Each morning when the students get to school they will go the cafeteria and receive
their morning nutritional snack.
Students will also be given the opportunity to have two classroom snack breaks
throughout the day. If you wish for your child to have a snack during this time, please
send a healthy snack from home. Please don’t forget the spoons!
As well, please send a water bottle for your child to use within the classroom.
 Book Orders:
Scholastic Book Orders are sent home monthly. If your child wishes to order, please fill
out the order form and return to your teacher by the due date.
Payment: CASH ONLY
 Attendance:
Again this year Caslan School will be awarding students monthly who have perfect
attendance.
Within our classroom, we will be celebrating near perfect attendance. Things happenpeople get sick, appointments need to be made and other extenuating circumstances
occur so we will celebrate those students who try their very best to always be at school
on time. Every month, students who have near perfect attendance will receive a
classroom reward.
Attendance plays an important role in a child’s academics so please give students
their best opportunity to succeed by having them come to school on time every day.
Thank you!
