Just in time for the opening of the powder season, handy Freeride Maps are now
available for six additional regions: Montafon, Glacier 3000/Alpes Vaudoises, Les
Arcs, La Clusaz, Serre Chevalier and Pic du Midi/Grand Tourmalet. And now for the
first time Freeride Maps can also be used with smartphones by means of the Scout
app.
Note: The first version of Scout app is already loaded with 23 of 36 Freeride Maps.
The remaining maps will be coming soon.
The best rides in the hottest freeride spots across the Alps - that‘s what Freeride Maps brings to
you. These are worldwide unique maps for freeriders which make local expert knowledge freely
available. All skiable slopes and couloirs are labelled as ‚freeride corridors‘ and assigned one
of three colour-coded difficulty ratings. These practical maps at a scale of 1:25 000 display all
the information required for planning and carrying out a tour in the terrain. Just in time for the
new powder season, there are now six new map sheets in three different countries: Montafon
(AT), Glacier 3000/Alpes Vaudoises (CH), Les Arcs (FR), La Clusaz (FR), Serre Chevalier (FR) uad
Pic du Midi/Grand Tourmalet (FR). This makes a total of 36 current maps available across five
countries.
More and more freeriders plan out their routes on the computer at home, and then use GPS
devices and smartphones for orientation and navigation out on the terrain. That‘s why Freeride
Maps are now available in digital form for the first time. When the Scout app (for Android
and iPhone) is used in conjunction with the tour planning software Tour Explorer LIVE from
MagicMaps, there are no more limits to route planning, navigation across terrain, and tour
analysis back home. Freeride descents can be organised easily from your own PC, updated
with the latest weather reports and avalanche situation, and transferred to the smartphone or
GPS device using wifi. Likewise, route sections can be imported from the Scout app into Tour
Explorer and processed or archived.
Out on the terrain the maps can be displayed on your smartphone, while location is determined
by GPS and indicated on the map. These new ways of making use of Freeride Maps make
planning and navigation easier and improve safety.
The use of Freeride Maps with the Scout app is a perfect complement to printed maps. However
there are distinct advantages to using conventional printed Freeride Maps. A printed map can be
used anytime and anywhere, independently of energy supply. It offers an ideal overview and is
practically indestructible as it is printed on tear-resistant and waterproof paper. On the back of
the map there are additional tips in two languages for route planning, prevention of avalanches,
and rescue. With a neat size of 10 x 15 cm when folded, the Freeride maps fit into any jacket or
trousers pocket.
