Beginning Around the World in Eighty Days
A
three-phase project involving a research
paper, a 15 hr. project, and a presentation
about the culture of a country in the world
 It officially begins on the first day of 3rd
quarter
 Students choose their country in October
or November
During 2nd quarter, students write their
embassy for their country, research basic
facts, and get at least two sources for their
research paper
 You will choose your top five
countries in order of preference and
list them on the sheet provided.
 Everyone’s list will be put into a
box and randomly drawn.
 Countries will be assigned to
students based on the order in which
they are drawn.
If all of your countries are taken by
the time your list is drawn, you will
have to choose another one at that
time.
 You
cannot choose the United States, Great
Britain, or Canada.
 You cannot choose any country that you or
any member of your living immediate family
(father, mother, brother, sister, grandparents,
aunts, or uncles) has either visited or lived in.
 You cannot choose a country that is not on
the list.
 You must be able to spell your country
name correctly or you won’t get it, even if your
name is drawn first!
 Choose a country that interests you and that you want to visit someday. You will be
spending a lot of time with this country and it needs to be interesting.
 Do not choose the smallest country on the map! You need to gather a good bit of
information about your country.
Make sure that you are putting countries, not continents or cities, on your list.
The most popular countries are: Jamaica, Australia, China, France, Spain, Japan,
Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Egypt, and New Zealand. Try to do something that is not just the
popular choice.
