Club Statement of Reasons to be considered for Cambridgeshire Club of the Year 2015
CLTC has had a highly successful 2015-16 season and the list of activities and achievements below are a
snap shot of the club’s work and the reasons it should be considered for Cambridgeshire Club of the Year
2016
Regularly competing juniors
CLTC maintains its 1st position in the LTA’s county table for regularly competing juniors list. This figure is
indicative of the commitment and hard work of the club and the coaching team to get children playing tennis and is real measure of CLTC’s success.
Great British Tennis Weekends
Great British Tennis Weekend
The event was held on the 13th June and despite the weather being terrible we still attracted around 30
new players to the club from the 80 that has signed up online. Those who attended had a great time on
court with the coaching team and all were given prizes. BBC radio turned up to cover the event and we had
Ali Cope from the LTA on site helping us and tweeting on our behalf.
CLTC LTA mini tennis month event in full swing
LTA Mini Tennis Month
We had over 50 people in attendance for the mini tennis month event which worked really well again this
year with the whole coaching team working together to deliver a great session. We attracted new members and have had some new children attend our camps and sessions thanks to the event.
LTA Quorn Event
We ran a new LTA Quorn event for parents and children which was a fun tournament that received good
feedback from the entrants. Tony and James Sabin won the event and were invited to compete at a fun
event held during an international grass tournament.
Schools Links & activities
Schools Tournament
A new 2015 CLTC school project involving work with 10 local schools over the summer term culminated in a
schools’ mini tennis tournament held on Saturday 20th June. We had 10 teams attend and a total of 40
players, making it the largest mini red tournament ever held at CLTC. Sue ran the tournament really well
and the feedback from the children and the strong contingent of parents was brilliant. £300 of tennis
equipment vouchers were shared by the top three schools. All the children who attend were invited to our
summer camps and the most talented to invite sessions with Sue.
Schools Festival
We hosted a two hour Schools’ Festival in June for local primary schools. 180 year 1 children attended and
were given the opportunity to try tennis at the club. Talent ID was carried out by the coaches and the most
promising students invited to join invitational classes over the summer holidays. All children were offered
subsidised coaching at CLTC.
Schools
Secondary School Link
CLTC linked up with Parkside and Coleridge school to host and deliver the following events:



Year 9 Tournament and taster session (50 students)
Year 7 taster session (80 students)
Year 10 tournament (30 students)
The students involved were all offered follow-on opportunities at CLTC and we got to see many of the children again during the summer holidays.
During 2015 CLTC had links with over 14 local schools and delivered a variety of after-school clubs and taster sessions

The club’s membership is booming with nearly 1000 members at the most recent count and members from
across the age ranges making regular use of the club’s facilities. The high membership levels are thanks to
the activities that the club runs and the overall service it provides. The club’s membership level is the best
evidence of a successful and well run club. One of the great strengths of CLTC is its spirit of welcoming all
players irrespective of level and age and then providing lots of opportunities for them to play.
Cambridge League Tennis
CLTC entered 34 teams into the Cambridge leagues in 2015 and the greatest league success for the club in
2015 was managing to win all three division 1 summer titles.
CLTC Internal Singles League
CLTC has a volunteer run singles league at the club which must be one of the most successful internal club
singles leagues in the country. The singles league runs all year and attracts around 150 players each round
who compete across thirty divisions ranging from beginners up to the club’s best players.
LTA Aegon Team Tennis
CLTC entered 15 Teams into the Local Aegon Leagues in 2015, providing 84 players with the opportunity to
play and get involved with the LTA’s flagship interclub competition. The number of teams entered by CLTC
highlights the club’s commitment to junior competition. An additional three teams were also entered into
the Premier League and our ladies competed in the Regional. CLTC were crowned champions of an impressive 8 of the Aegon Divisions in 2015, eclipsing all other clubs in the county.
Number & variety of Junior Tournaments we host
CLTC ran over 20 LTA sanctioned junior tournaments in 2015 along with two grade 3 week long events.
CLTC also hosted the Cambs Junior County Tournament. A lot of effort and energy goes into organising
these tournaments to enable local juniors the opportunity to play in higher events without the need to
travel outside of the county.

Quality of CLTC Coaching Programme and Coaching Team
CLTC is quite unique in that the club runs its own coaching programme rather than outsourcing to a coach.
This structure ensures that quality coaching is always top priority and any surpluses gained are put back
into grass roots tennis and the club’s Aces programme that helps fund promising young Cambridge players.
During 2015 CLTC’s programme has consisted of over 50 classes each week with over 300 students of all
ages and levels attending. The club’s coaching team are second to none with 1 LTA L3 coach two L4 LTA
coaches and our head coach L5.
