16 January 2017
Dear Redhill School Community
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all back to what I expect will be a very exciting and
successful year at Redhill School. What makes this year different to most others is that Redhill
School will be celebrating its 110th birthday. In observance thereof, the school has planned
some wonderful events to mark this auspicious occasion; the first of these will celebrate Redhill
School during the 60s, and will coincide with our High School musical production of Hairspray,
to be staged at the beginning of May.
At the end of last year, I was very proud to send you all a letter reflecting our outstanding 2016
Matric results. These results heralded testimony to the commitment of our students, to
achieving their full academic potential, as well as the expert and caring involvement of our
Matric teachers with the students under their tutelage. However, outstanding matric results
cannot be attributed to the commitment and dedication of our matric teachers only.
Congratulations must be extended also to every teacher who, in some way or another,
impacted these students along the course of their school career.
Last year, I also sent out communication i.r.o. the excellent new staff who will be joining our
school this year. While it is always sad to say goodbye to longstanding and loyal colleagues,
it is also exciting to welcome new staff members who bring with them a wealth of experience
and innovation. As I have often said in the past, I cannot commit to how long members of staff
will ultimately stay at Redhill School; however, what I can commit to is that we will always look
to attract excellent staff who will not only be passionate about our mission, vision and values
but will be unreservedly committed to the welfare of our students.
As promised last year, we are now in a position to share with parents, the Vision, Mission
and Values of the school. In this regard, please click on the link below to view the invitation to

Furthermore, our communications policy is also ready to be implemented; we look forward to
a more streamlined communications system that will ensure that the Redhill community is not
only better informed about our events and activities but is also able to communicate more
effectively with us. Please consult the document attached hereto – Redhill School –
Communication Policy – and ensure that you spend time reviewing the procedures outlined
therein.
We are also excited to be able to go live with our revamped Website and to introduce you to
our new communication tool – the Redhill School App. Please note the attached instructions
offering guidance on its use.
With the exciting news that Redhill School has begun the process of implementing the
International Baccalaureate, we have started the process of advertising the position of IB
Programme Coordinator. This is a requirement stipulated by the IB and one which is essential
if we are to ensure that we are fully prepared for this undertaking. As soon as an appointment
has been finalised, we will introduce the successful candidate to the community.
The refurbishment of the Future Focus Centre is well underway and we look forward to opening
the facility officially towards the end of February, in time for our Open Day (Wednesday 22
February). Despite delays caused by inclement weather conditions over the holiday period,
the construction of our new Hockey facility remains on track. However, and as we had
anticipated, it will not be ready for the 2017 season; therefore, plans have been made for our
senior teams to practise at an alternative facility as was the case last year.
In conclusion, I look forward to working with all who entrust Redhill School with the education
and care of their children. Be assured that, should the occasion arise, our team will be at your
disposal to discuss any concerns or suggestions you may have. I wish you all a rewarding
2017 and look forward to many opportunities to celebrate our successes as we, together,
support our children in reaching their own unique potential.
May this be a year of prosperity and inspiring affirmation for Redhill School and its community.
