Every other Sunday at 3pm Show’s Objective: “Changing the conversation with Shakira Ellis” is a radio show aimed at changing the way people perceive Inner city living by promoting and discussing the growth and positive initiatives that are going on in these areas. The goal of this radio show is to combat the negative press by highlighting the positive things that are happening in these urban metropolises. This show will feature everything from crafty entrepreneurs who have established creative businesses, to urban gardeners looking to stamp out hunger in their communities to fitness experts who have made it their personal mission to eliminate obesity in their area. This show’s only purpose is to persuade the individual whose fears have been fueled by the media’s attempts to paint urban areas as violent crime-filled cesspools into believing something different. About the Host Shakira Ellis was born and raised in Detroit Michigan. She is a graduate of Michigan State University and Wayne State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and a Master of Arts degree in Film respectively. Her passion for Detroit and inner cities like it stems from the resurgence that she has witnessed and been a part of in Detroit for the last several years. With over 10 years of media experience, which includes public relations, radio, print journalism and film, Shakira plans to use her expertise to bring awareness to the revitalization that is happening in Detroit and other cities like it across the U.S. in hopes of “Changing the Conversation” and society’s perception of inner cities and the people who live there.
