This funding has been allocated to pupils who are looked after by the Local Authority, those who have been eligible for Free School Meals at any point in the last six years and for children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces. The level of premium for 2013-14 was £900 per primary pupil, and is rising to £1300 per pupil in 2014-15. From April 2014, children who are ‘looked after’ will attract a higher rate of funding that children from low-income families – the ‘Pupil Premium Plus’, which will be £1900 per pupil. This is to reflect the unique challenges ‘looked after’ pupils face where they can often struggle to keep up with their peers at both primary and secondary level. Pupils who have parents in the armed forces are supported through the Service Child Premium which for 2014-15 will be set at £300 per pupil. The Pupil Premium Grant is seen by the government as the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children from more deprived backgrounds and their wealthier peers, to ensure that they do not fall behind their peers academically. The ultimate aim is to close the attainment gap between pupils from different backgrounds. Our grant for 2013-14 was £42,179 and for this academic year £43,450. At Bream C of E Primary School we: Believe in Quality First Teaching for all pupils so that good progress is made by all. Ensure that appropriate provision is made for all pupils including vulnerable groups and that pupils have their needs adequately assessed and met. Provision at Bream C of E Primary School This year the Pupil Premium Grant of £42,179 has been used to provide a Teaching Assistant in every class for reading, writing and maths. This enables the class teacher to have more time to work with pupils either individually or in small groups. TAs also assist with 1:1 precision teaching, delivering enrichment programmes and providing Key Worker support for pupils with social and emotional issues Impact KS2 2014 Y6 2014 Number % of in year pupils group making expected progress+ in Reading 31 87 All Pupils PP 6 Not25 PP 100 84 % of pupils making expected progress+ in Writing % of Achieving Achieving Achieving Achieving pupils L4+ in L4+ in L4+ in L4+ making Reading Writing Maths Spelling, expected Grammar progress+ and in Maths Punctuation 100 77 87 94 74 52 100 100 83 76 100 84 83 96 50 80 33 56 Average Point Score in Writing 13.1 Average Point School in Maths 15.6 Achieving Achieving Achieving L2+ in L2+ in L2+ in Reading Writing Maths 82 71 82 12.3 13.5 13 16.7 75 85 50 80 50 95 KS1 2014 Y2 2014 Number Average in year Point group Score in Reading 28 15.3 All Pupils PP 8 Not20 PP 14.3 15.7
