Welcome back fans and sponsors to another exciting campaign year for the UOW FSAE team. The team had a brilliant 2015 that featured excellent success and publicity, with the 2015 campaign car, ‘Lucy’, breaking into the top
10 as the team secured 8th position at the Australasian competition. The success of ‘Lucy’ could not have been
possible without all the support from our outstanding sponsors and fans. With the team under the guidance of an
all new executive team for 2016, we aim to build off the success of the 2015 campaign in terms of design and operation. The construction of the new 2016 car is taking shape in exciting stages and our highly enthusiastic team
have been working tirelessly on finalising component design and manufacture procedures. Over the last three
months there has been lots of brilliant publicity for ‘UOW-FSAE’, as the team has been keeping busy with various
open days and external events, as well as the internal logistics and construction phases of the 2016 campaign.

Director: Todd Dempsey
“As the 2016 racer's design was
completed throughout February,
the team has already begun manufacturing the chassis. The CNC
notched tubing had arrived in early
February and the Jigs were cut shortly thereafter. The chassis is now 90%
welded and we are right on schedule
for the build.
Material orders have been completed,
and are ready for purchasing. In the
mean-time, UOW-FSAE's Technical Division are focusing on developing the required part drawings for external and internal manufacture, and maintaining the
2015 racer "Lucy" between track days and
test sessions.”

Australia Day
Newcastle University (NU) Racing Site Visit
The 2016 campaign is already off to a brilliant start as UOW FSAE
was very excited to showcase the 2015 campaign car ‘Lucy’ at the
‘Oz Day in the Gong’ festival on Australia day. The day featured a
stall set up to showcase the car and the achievements of the team.
There was a large amount of interest and publicity as we showcased
‘Lucy’ through both static display and exciting demonstrations of
the car in action. Driver Todd Dempsey put ‘Lucy’ through her paces
with some thrilling hot laps around Wollongong harbour. This drew
a huge audience with a lot of keen fans, many of which had their
picture taken in the car prior to the drive demonstration. We would
like to thank the City of Wollongong Council for inviting us. Australia
day was very successful for the UOW FSAE team and we are looking
forward to returning next year.
To kick off February the UOW-FSAE team took a trip up to Newcastle to Visit the NU racing facility at the University of Newcastle. It
was a fantastic day and the team was eager to take a look around
the workshop of the NU racing site. We would like to thank NU
racing for inviting us and showing us around their workshop areas.
Networking opportunities such as these are highly beneficial for
both teams as they provide wider insight into competitions challenges and how to overcome them. It was a very educational day
for all involved and the team is sure that the members of the Newcastle team that visited our facilities in the S.M.A.R.T. building at
UOW also enjoyed their trip down to our workshop in the few days
afterwards as well.
Enrolment Day
Enrolment day this year was a great opportunity for new students
to introduce themselves and get involved. The BBQ was running hot
and ‘Lucy’ was on display also. A lot of interest was shown from new
students who were keen to see what the UOW FSAE organisation is
all about and we had the pleasure of meeting many new students
and potential members.
EOMM Meet
Following on from Enrolment Day the team towed the car to Sydney
to attend the famous monthly car meet ‘EOMM’ held at Sydney
Drag-way. This public event was packed with many car enthusiasts
who took great interest in the UOW FSAE team and the 2015 campaign car. It was great to be alongside Sydney University Racing

“When anyone refers to a “Wollongong car" we all know what they mean. They are not afraid to change
in order to be competitive, whether it be the ferocious turbo era vehicles to the grippy winged monsters
of today. This is a real credit to their team always hungry to innovate in this competition.”
