Optimal feeding systems
For maximum feeding efficiency
DeLaval vertical, horizontal and stationary mixer wagons
Clearly having the right equipment to mix quality feed rations is critical
to successful dairy farm management: to get an optimum feed mix and
simplify its distribution.
Successful feed management
Optimizing milk production requires
an advanced feeding strategy. The right
feeding system is vital to produce a
high milk yield and to ensure healthier
cows.
Diets made to meet the nutrition
requirements of high producing dairy
cows typically contain relatively high
amounts of concentrate and high quality
forages. High structure roughage is also
necessary to maintain and improve cow
health. It increases chewing activity
and saliva production, providing for a
stable rumen pH to reduce the risk of
digestive disorders.
sort the ingredients to pick out their
favourite foods. Well mixed rations
help the farmer to ensure that the cow
eats the balanced feed, improving dry
matter intake and stimulating higher
levels of milk production.
Providing a well mixed ration makes it
more difficult for cows to separate and

Specific characteristics
DeLaval vertical mixer VM
Make short work of round bales. No more slicing and awkward manoeuvring
of parts of large round bales. With a DeLaval vertical mixer the complete
bale goes into the mixer, and the powerful auger does the rest.
Cuts, mixes and distributes
A DeLaval vertical mixer provides a
good feed mix within a short mixing
time. The unique auger design in
combination with the counter knives
mixes and cuts even whole round
bales and long straw. The central
auger cuts, agitates and mixes the feed
in the mixing container. All fibres
are cut to an even length, and the
mixed ration ingredients are thoroughly
combined into a fluffy high quality
mix. The homogeneous mix ensures
that the cows eat all the components:
concentrate and other ingredients are so
well mixed together, the cow can’t pick
out just what she likes. The fluffy mix
leads to high feed intake.
Electronic scales
The SI100 scales, with an easy to read
display, provide accurate weighing.
Recipes can be programmed on SI500
scales. The premium scales SI2040 offer
the enhanced range of options available
with TMR feed manager software.
This can be linked to ALPRO™ herd
management to offer you even better
control of your feed management.
Efficient distribution
Distribution is simple and precise, so
each group of cows will get the right
amount of good quality feed. The
unique cross conveyor system enables
feed to be discharged evenly on either
side of the mixer, so the wheels will not
ride over the feed.
We offer a full range of vertical mixers from 4 m³ to 20 m³
Two speed gear box
All DeLaval vertical mixers of 10 cubic
metres and upwards have a two speed
gearbox, which reduces the power
needed from the tractor and ensures
efficient mixing, distribution and
emptying of the mixing wagon.
Choice of sizes
DeLaval vertical mixers come in six
sizes, from 4 m³ for small farms to the
heavy duty 20 m³. All have mixing
containers in high quality steel, and
mixing gear designed for heavy duty
operation and long service life.
Customize your vertical mixer
There is a range of options to customize
your mixer to your requirements. These
include chain or belt conveyors for feed
distribution, as well as an elevating
conveyor to reach high feed tables.

Durable and reliable
The vertical mixer is designed for long
life and low maintenance. DeLaval
VM will run for long hours, and
scheduled service and maintenance is
straightforward and easy, to minimize
downtime and control costs.
DeLaval mobile and stationary horizontal mixers
DeLaval horizontal mixer wagons offer even, homogeneous mixing with a
three-auger horizontal mixing system and an efficient cutting device.
Optimized cutting and mixing
DeLaval HM and HSM have a threeauger horizontal mixing system to
optimize cutting and mixing efficiency,
for the best quality mix. Knife options
include special round knives for longfibred material.
Self load with silage-cutter
A silage cutter can be fitted to DeLaval
horizontal mixer HM8 and HM12
mixer wagons to load silage efficiently
without needing a second tractor or
loader. The silage cutter leaves a
smooth, straight-cut face, which helps
to maintain feed quality and reduce
silage wastage. It also cuts down on
manual labor.
Scale system
As with the vertical mixer, the scales
provide exact weighing, programmable
recipes, and an easy to read display.
They can be linked to TMR software.
Strength and reliability
DeLaval mixer wagons have their own
strong chassis, on which the mixer
chamber is placed. The robust design
provides strength and reliability for hard
conditions and high usage.
The mixer’s hydraulic system is
independent of the tractor. It is handled
via the control panel or with control
levers inside the tractor cabin.

Proper distribution
DeLaval horizontal mixer HM unloads
the mixed feed with a belt conveyor,
available in different lengths to fit
different barn layouts. As an option, the
elevator can be hydraulically adjusted
to suit different feed tables.
Automatic feeding
DeLaval horizontal stationary mixer
HSM is the heart of an automatic
feeding system, linked to a rail
suspended feed wagon. It is designed
for heavy usage and frequent feeding,
up to 15 times per day.
System connection
The critical weighing and programming of the mixed ration can be managed
either on a stand alone system, or connected to DeLaval TMR feed manager
software. This in turn can be connected to ALPRO™ herd management.
The stand alone scale system provides
for weighing all feed as it is added
to the mix, or distributed out. All the
scales are very easy to read, with large
clear letters.
• Premium scale SI2040 holds
programming of different recipes, and
can be linked to TMR feed manager,
which can be connected to ALPRO™
herd management.
• The scale SI100, weighs feed
ingredients and the mixed ration.
The scale system connected to TMR
software offers full control of feed
management. Benefits, in addition to
all the functionality of the stand alone
• With SI500, different recipes can be

system, include access to feeding
history, ration management, and
feed bunk management. It provides
information on operator performance.
It also enables inventory control and
economic calculations: such as cost
benefit analyses of feed composition
and feed content and costs, relative to
changes in milk volume and production
income.
