following de la salle - Christian Brothers of the Midwest

FOLLOWING in the FOOTSTEPS of DE LA SALLE
The righteous have become a coin of the Lord,
and have the impress of their King stamped upon them.
Saint Clement of Alexandria
As we remember the life of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, we recall his dream of providing a
Christian education for the youth of his time and the methods of spirituality and insights that he
passed on to us and which is still kept very much alive all over the world by the Lasallian Family.
PRESENCE of GOD
O God, You are the Creator of us all and You continually abide with us
and fill us with life and holiness. All praise and honor, glory and thanks to You
Who calls us Your own and Who loves us with an everlasting love.
PSALM 104
May the glory of the Lord endure for ever;
may the Lord rejoice in His works -I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
May my meditation be pleasing to You, my God.,
for I rejoice in the Lord.
Bless the Lord, O my soul.
Praise the Lord!
SCRIPTURE: Romans 1:7-17
To all the beloved of God called to be holy.
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I give thanks to my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is heralded
throughout the world. God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in proclaiming the gospel of
His Son, that I remember you constantly, always asking in my prayers that somehow by God's will I
may at last find my way clear to come to you. For I long to see you, that I may share with you some
spiritual gift so that you may be strengthened, that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged
by one another's faith, yours and mine. I am not ashamed of the Gospel. It is the power of God for
the salvation of everyone who believes. For in it is revealed the righteousness of God from faith to
faith; as it is written, "The one who is righteous by faith will live."
The Word of the Lord!
“I adore in all things the holy Will of God in my regard.”
De La Salle
REFLECTION
As we in 21st century America attempt to live our Christian life according to the ideals of Saint De
La Salle, we remember those things that were important to him and which he passed on to our first
Brothers as they formed their spiritual life in community while going about the work of educating
the youth of the working class and the poor.
Always live in the holy presence of God.
Remember always the Will of God in our regard.
Make the reading of Holy Scripture a part of our everyday life.
Remember that we are ambassadors of Jesus Christ.
Spend time in prayer each day and hold up our work to the Lord.
Be animated in all things by a spirit of faith.
Frequent the sacraments.
Remember to instruct others in the faith.
Always be filled with a spirit of zeal.
Live simply and walk humbly with our God.
Be of service to others.
May Jesus always and forever live in our hearts.

We remember all of our partners in our Lasallian mission:
We pray for God’s blessing on all our benefactors of the Lasallian schools:
We pray that we may imitate the virtues of the saintly Brothers who have gone before us:
PRAYER
O God, ever-faithful, ever-loving,
we thank You for the gift to Your Church
of Saint John Baptist De La Salle.
We pray that, like him,
we may deepen our friendship with You
and grow more aware of Your presence
in our lives each day.
We pray too, for the gifts of faith and zeal.
These two virtues name the spirit of the Brothers of the Christian Schools
and our entire Lasallian Family.
Grant that we, like Saint De La Salle, may be people of great faith and zeal:
believing deeply that You, O God, are indeed present in our world,
and working with great enthusiasm for the Christian education of youth,
especially the children of the working class and the poor.
Help us, O Triune God, to appreciate the gifts that You have bestowed on us;
may we use these gifts to make a better world for all. Amen.
Since you are ambassadors and ministers of Jesus Christ in the work you do, you
must act as representing Jesus Christ Himself.
