Tier 4 Rule changes – 12th November 2015 As many of you already know, immigration rules change quickly and frequently, and a significant rule change is on the horizon. From the 12th November 2015, Tier 4 applicants will no longer be able to rely on ‘established presence’ to reduce the amount of money they need to hold in the bank to meet living costs. To make matters even more challenging, the monthly amount considered necessary for living costs is also going up – from £820 to £1,015 (outside London). This means that, where a student may previously have needed to hold two months’ living costs based on established presence (£1,640), they will now have to hold up to nine months’ worth (depending on the length of visa they are applying for), which at the new rate is £9,135. As before, this is the minimum amount which should have been held for an unbroken period of 28 days before a visa application becomes viable. If you have a Tier 4 visa which expires soon, and which will need to be renewed for you to take resits or retakes, or to enable you to progress to a further course of study, please get in touch with the Immigration Advice Service, either by emailing [email protected], or by attending a drop-in session in room 2P04, Frenchay Campus. We are open from 1030 to 1200 from Monday to Friday and 1400 to 1530 from Monday to Thursday (at the time of writing – 14th October 2015).
