Newsletter available online at http://evansviewschool.ca Principal’s Message Bus Routines Just a reminder that the buses will now be picking up and dropping off students just east of the parking lot. Please do not park your vehicle there in the morning or after school. They are also working on the road east of the school. That section of road may not be open when school begins. Please keep that in mind if you are planning on dropping off or picking up your children. Please be aware that because Evansview does not have a dedicated bus lane, the buses turn on their lights when they are dropping off and picking up students at the start and end of each school day. Please be advised that if you pass the bus when the lights are flashing and the police ticket you, it is a $400 fine and 6 demerit points off your license. If you have any questions regarding this please feel free to ask. News For You From Evansview Welcome Back! I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer holiday. The 201617 school year is shaping up to be another busy year full of new educational opportunities and fun filled activities for both students and staff. We had a positive year last year. I am hoping to have an even better year by working with all of you to continue to make Evansview a great place for students, staff and parents. I will be in the office in the morning and teaching in the afternoons. I look forward to meeting with you to discuss any ideas you may have to improve our school. Please remember that my door is always open. If you are coming to the school during the day please check into the office, for student safety, especially if you are going out to the playground to see one of our students. Lastly, please ensure your child is not arriving before 8:15am as supervision does not begin before that time. Mike Gray School Fees Instructional Material Fees are $70 per child from Kindergarten to Gr. 6 for the 2016-2017 school year. There is a family plan with a maximum payment of $ 245.00 (equivalent to the sum of one student at each grade level group). These fees are due the end of September. The money collected from these fees is used for textbooks, workbooks, and consumables (ex. art supplies). Arrangements can be made at the office to pay the fees in installments over the course of the year. Page |1 Bell Times Our recess and lunch times have changed from last year. School Rules Guiding statement “All people at Evansview school shall show respect for themselves, others and property” The rules for Evansview School are as follows: 1. Do as requested by school staff. 2. Show respect for yourself, others and property ( For example no swearing, teasing, putdowns, fighting, rough play, pushing, stealing or vandalism) 3. Clean up after yourself. 4. Be on time for class. 5. Have all necessary materials and be prepared for class. 6. Do all assigned work in class (or homework) to an acceptable level. 7. Must have permission from school staff to leave school grounds. Students are required to follow the aforementioned rules. If a student behaves in an inappropriate manner, they are generally given one chance to correct their behavior (depending on the severity of the behavior). If they continue the behaviors, parents will be contacted to help resolve any issues. Meet the Teacher We are going to have a scavenger hunt in conjunction with this event again this year. This is an excellent way to meet all our staff and have a look around the school. The format is as follows: all those who are able to attend will need to complete the scavenger hunt and once that has been done they bring their completed sheet to Mr. Gray who will then give them a free ice cream treat. We will be doing this on Tuesday, September 13th from 4 to 6 pm. We hope to see you then. News For You From Evansview Page |2 AMA Crossing Guards We will be running the AMA School Safety Patrol again this year. Any students in grade 5 and 6 who are interested in volunteering for this program will be able to pick up a permission slip from outside the office. Training will take place on Wednesday September 21st. Permission slips will be available outside of the office and must be passed in by Tuesday, September 20th. Those students who do participate and stick with it all year will be going to the waterpark in West Edmonton Mall in June. Any current grade 6 students who were Crossing guards last year and plan on doing it again this year, can start duties prior to this year’s training. If they are interested, please see Mr. Gray. Parent Council Meeting Houses of Evansview Please join us at our first PAC meeting of the year on Monday September 19th at 7pm in the library. If you attend your child will earn 5 points towards their house. We will be continuing with the Houses of Evansview program again this year. Students will be placed into one of six houses. Once all of the students have been assigned to a specific house, they have opportunities to earn points for their house. Points can be earned by getting a Gotcha. A Gotcha is given for random acts of kindness. Each time a student earns a Gotcha their name goes into a monthly draw to join Mr. Gray for lunch. Students can also earn points for their house by participating in house activities over the course of the year. These activities will vary over the year. Each time a house earns 200 points and multiples thereof, they receive a variety of rewards as recognition for their efforts. If you have any suggestions for activities or possible rewards, drop them off at the office. At the end of the year the house with the most points will have their picture taken with the Houses of Evansview trophy. I would like to thank the Parent Advisory Committee for their continued generous support with this program. Evansburg Playschool The first day for playschool, will be Monday, October 3rd. Mindy Pierson is going to be running the playschool again this year and she is accepting registrations. It will be held in the same room that Successful Kids and families is using, room 6. If you have a 3 or 4 year old child that you would like to enroll in the playschool or if you know someone else who does, please contact the school at 780-727-3623 and we will get you the information you are looking for. The program is open to all parents and their preschool age children. It runs every Tuesday from 10:00 am to 11:30 am in room 6. The intent of the program is to offer support and assistance to new parents. As you know, kids don’t come with a manual and this is an opportunity to learn from those who have plenty of experience when it comes to raising children. If you know of anyone who has young children please let them know about this great opportunity. Student Absences If your child is going to be absent we would kindly ask that you either phone the school at 780-727-3623 or you can send an e-mail to our secretary at [email protected] . If your child is absent and we have not heard from you, we will be contacting you to ensure that your child is safe. If they are away for more than one day, we will not be phoning after the first day, as we will assume they are still not feeling well. We have a variety of items ranging from bottled water, Lunchables, KD and some healthy snack items. The vending machine does accept both coins and bills.
