2017 PROM/AFTER PROM Permission and Guest Request Forms are available in the Main Office and the
Student Management Office. Permission Forms are due to your first period teacher by Friday, April 7!
Underclassmen who are going with a junior or senior must complete the Permission Form. Guest Request
Forms are due to the Student Management Office by the end of the day on Thursday, April 20. Prom is
Saturday, April 22 with walk in beginning at 7 p.m. The dance is from 8 -11 p.m. After prom doors open at
midnight and you must arrive by 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 23. It is over at 3:30 a.m. and you must stay
until that time. Sign-up will be held in the Food Court closer to the date. They have planned for food and
fun and fabulous prizes! Juniors and seniors who choose not to attend the prom are welcome at the after
prom. Stay tuned for details.
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella is our Spring Musical! The three shows are Friday, April 28,
Saturday, April 29 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 30 at 3 p.m. Tickets are now on sale in the Main Office or
online at wphswv.booktix.com They are $13 for adults and $7 for students.
WPHS Summer School 2017 Applications are available in the Guidance Office. Traditional Summer School
will be held June 1 – June 19. Classes offered include the elective Physical Education and Credit Recovery
for English, Math, Social Studies or Science. Online Summer School offerings are Civics A, Civics B, Civics A
Honors, Civics B Honors, Health I and Health II. You must have computer with internet access, a WPHS
edline account and email. This is limited to ½ credit. Online students must complete the survey opened on
Edline May 15-18. Online Health I students must complete the CPR training requirement on April 26 during
Activity Period in Tech 4 and HEAP assessment on April 28 in Tech 4 at 9 a.m. It begins Monday, May 22
through Thursday, June 15. COMPLETED REGISTRATION FORMS ARE DUE TO THE GUIDANCE BY
THURSDAY, MAY 11. You will be notified in person or by phone/email/mail to confirm the status of your
course registration.
Online Health I and II will meet in Tech 4 during Activity Period on Wednesday, April 26.
If you are registering for online civics for summer school Mr. Galik wants to meet with you during
Activity Period on Wednesday, April 26. The meeting will be held in O359.
Park Players Usher Crew will be meeting on Wednesday, April 19th from 2:45-3:45 in Mrs. Nelson's room.
5K Race – Woodsdale Elementary PTO is hosting a Let’s Play 5K to provide an awesome playground for
students and the community. It will be May 6 at 9 a.m. Applications are available in the Main Office.

Attention Students! Would you like a FREE opportunity to learn from some of the most recognized and
respected leaders in the world? Leadercast Wheeling is the largest one-day leadership conference in the
world, and on Friday, May, 5th, it will be broadcast live from the Vineyard Church for all in attendance! If
you are interested in attending this free event, please stop in Guidance to pick up an application packet.
Attending this conference will count as one of your 5 parent notes/excuses for the semester. Completed
applications are due to Guidance Office no later than Wednesday, April 19th. (Junior AP History students:
please be aware that your AP US History exam is scheduled in the morning that day). For more

Attention all AP students!! You have entered the late registration time frame through April 7. Checks
should be made payable to Wheeling Park High School. There is an additional $55 late fee.

**SENIORS – These informational meetings are about both the Stifel Scholarship and the Phyllis A. Beneke
Scholarship. (This is the one distributed at graduation.) The Stifel Trustees will be here to discuss the Stifel
Scholarship. In order to apply for the Stifel Scholarship, you must meet the following requirements: you must be an
Ohio County resident, have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher, and need financial assistance to attend college. For the
Beneke you must have a 3.5 or higher GPA, be a US citizen, a resident of Ohio County and have attended WPHS for
four consecutive years. Please sign up in the Guidance Office and pick up a permission slip from the Guidance
secretaries. If you cannot attend this meeting, please stop down in guidance and pick up a scholarship packet after
April 5.

SUMMER CAMPS/CLASSES:
WVU Institute of Technology has an exciting summer camp for WV’s current or incoming high school
students interested in STEM fields. Camp STEM is a weeklong exploration of careers in science, technology,
engineering and math. Camp STEM will be held from June 18-23. The deadline for applications is April 17. More info
is available in the Main office.
The West Virginia State Police Junior Trooper Academy will be held July 24-28, 2017. The primary purpose is
to provide students who are interested in law enforcement a hands on view of West Virginia State Police. Ohio
County can nominate one student. See Mrs. Short if you are interested.
The 40th Teen Entrepreneurship Summit at Camp Horseshoe will be June 11-17, 2017. For more information
about this unique opportunity visit www.yla-youthleadership.org. WPHS has two scholarships for a male and female
student. See Mrs. Short in Guidance if interested.
WV Governor's School of Entrepreneurship is now accepting applications for their summer program running
from July 5-25 at West Virginia University. Possible candidates are innovative students who believe that they have an
idea that may be valuable. For more information visit www.govschools.wv.gov/gse. The deadline is April 15, 2017.
WVNCC's summer schedule of courses is available online! Current Juniors or Seniors interested in taking a
summer school course for the reduced rate of $75 dollars per 3 credit hours (excluding summer PE) may sign up now.
You will have to purchase a textbook in addition to the tuition. You must have at least a 3.0 GPA and may have
to pass an early entrance test. See your counselor if you want more information and to get an early entrance
application.
Any student interested in participating in the West Virginia Northern Community College Summer PE
Course, needs to pick up the information and application here in our Guidance Office. The class will be held at
WVNCC from June 5-16. The cost is $250. All students who complete the class will receive 1/2 credit in PE for WPHS
and 2 hours of college credit. Please see Mrs. Abraham with any questions or concerns.
