Munster Cities U-10 Hurling Blitz 2009

Munster Cities U10 Hurling Blitz – Sept 12th Limerick 2009
A chairdi,
Munster Council GAA welcomes you to the proud sporting city of Limerick and would like to
thank you for entering the Munster Cities U10 Hurling Blitz 2009. This fantastic initiative has
run for a number of years now. Last year in excess of 50 teams from Limerick, Cork & Waterford
travelled to Cork and a similar number in 2007 to Waterford. It provides an ideal opportunity
for coaches to assess team performance against 'foreign' opposition and also will give clubs an
opportunity to make new contacts to play friendly games and blitzes against in the future. Finally
many thanks to the clubs of Limerick (Old Christian’s, Ballybrown, St. Patrick’s and Monaleen)
for staging the many blitzes and to the teams of Cork & Waterford for making the trip.
Approximately 500childeren will play hurling on September 12th in a fun and enjoyable manner.
I hope all have a great day!
Íomáint Abú!

Munster Cities Blitz 2009 Rules & Guidelines
Quick Touch Go Hurling/Games rules apply.
All coaches should agree with the appointed referee on interpretation of Go Hurling
Quick Touch Rules prior to the commencement of each game. Also it is encouraged that
player ability levels should be mixed among clubs with 2+ teams i.e. Mix week and
stronger hurlers. This is better for each player’s long term skill and athletic development
as a hurler. It does not hold what is deemed to be the “stronger hurler at this age level!
Panels to consist of 11 players and teams of 9.
Games are 5 minutes per quarter i.e. 24min in total (Groups of 5teams)
Games are 6 minutes per quarter i.e. 20min in total (Groups of 4teams)
Break at half-time max2 minutes – No breaks between quarters.
Ground Hurling 1st & 3rd Quarters i.e. No rising the ball
Standard Hurling 2nd & 4th Quarters (No soloing or kicking the ball)
A player may catch the ball on the hop or from the air in all quarters
No square ball, referee “65’s” to be taken from half-way line
The player who is fouled or nearest the free position takes the free
Players and mentors to shake hands at the end of each game
Each player to play a minimum of two full quarters/one half per game.
See http://www.gaa.ie/page/go_games.html for full set of Quick Touch
Rules/Principles
Each team to play a minimum 3games in a group of 4
Each participating child will receive a complimentary t-shirt and quick touch sliothar
The emphasis on this blitz is to maximise FUN & PARTICIPATION for all. There will
be no trophies. Every child is a winner and strong/forceful/aggressive coaches, mentors,
parents and spectators will not be tolerated, especially to referees, coordinators and of
course children/players.
All clubs are requested to be at their respective venues 30 minutes before the start of the
first game. Clubs arriving late may forfeit matches.
Referees will be appointed for the blitz. However in the unlikely event of a shortfall,
clubs should agree to appoint their own referee so each coach should bring a whistle as a
backup.
Each player/mentor from Cork & Waterford should bring his/her own packed lunch for
the day. This will not be provided, however the host club may decide to provide light
refreshments.
