H. MEMORY
H.1 – DESCRIPTION/OVERVIEW
The FDIX Memory feature allows the user to store up to 500 samples for later retrieval. A sample
is saved when the user presses the SEND key on the FDIX gauge. Samples can be retrieved
and reviewed on the gauge display or sent via the RS232 interface to a computer (PC).
DEFINITIONS:
Sample
Data Point
Instantaneous Force
Peak Force
A single consecutively numbered test performed at one site and at one
time. Force values can include: instantaneous, peak compression and
peak tension.
A numerical force value, here: instantaneous, peak compression and
peak tension.
A numerical force value that corresponds to the force currently applied to
the shaft.
A numerical compression or tension force that corresponds to the
maximum force applied to the load shaft during one test.
Each sample saved contains the following data:
1 - Sample Number – Consecutive: 1-500 samples
2 - Instantaneous force with unit of measure*
3 - Compression Peak force with unit of measure*
4 - Tension Peak force with unit of measure*
* Units of force: lbf. ozf. kgf. N.
H.2 - MEMORY DISPLAY
The following memory items are included on the gauge display (LCD):
• Consecutive sample number, instantaneous force and peak compression or peak tension force.
• Four triangular tick marks (upper left) indicating by flashing which of the four values is currently
being displayed.
H.3 - MEMORY SET-UP
The FDIX gauge SEND key is used to save samples, send samples via the RS232 port, both or
none. The SEND key mode is set up using the gauge setup menu.
To set up the SEND key mode, perform the following steps:
• Turn off the FDI/FDIX.
• Push / Hold ZERO, push ON/OFF.
• Release ON/OFF first, then release ZERO after AOFF is displayed.
• Press and release SCROLL until the StoreE option is displayed.
• Press SELECT: rdATA is displayed.

• Press and release SCROLL until the SEnd option is displayed.
• Press and release SELECT to enter the SEnd option menu.
• Press and release SCROLL until the desired option is selected
Available options are:
1) none - SEND key is not used
2) 232 - SEND key sends data to computer via RS232 only
3) dATA - SEND key saves a sample only
4) both - SEND saves sample and sends to computer via RS232
NOTE!!! - If the gauge has been programmed to operate in the gauge initiated continuous mode
the memory save feature is disabled.
• When the desired option has been selected, press SELECT: done is displayed to indicate that
the desired mode has been saved.
• Turn the gauge off and on to return to the measurement mode.
H.4 - MEMORY SAVE OPERATION
A sample is saved when SEND is pressed. When a sample is saved, the gauge will momentarily
display SavE, followed by the sample number of the saved data.
If the sample memory storage is full, the gauge will display FuLL.
H.5 - MEMORY DATA RETREIVAL
H.5.1 - Using Gauge Display
To enter the sample review mode, perform the following steps:
• Turn off the FDI/FDIX.
• Push / Hold ZERO, push ON/OFF.
• Release ON/OFF first, then release ZERO after AOFF is displayed.
• Press and release SCROLL until StoreE is displayed.
• Press SELECT: rdATA is displayed.
• Press SELECT. Sample number and the first tick mark (left to right) are displayed. The leftmost
tick mark will flash, indicating the sample number is displayed.
• Press SCROLL. The instantaneous value from this sample is displayed and the second tick
mark will flash, indicating the instantaneous sample is displayed.
• Press SCROLL. The compression peak value from this sample is displayed and the third tick
mark will flash, indicating the compression peak sample is displayed.
• Press SCROLL. The tension peak value from this sample is displayed and the fourth tick mark
will flash, indicating the tension peak sample is displayed.
• Press SCROLL. The sample number for the next sample will be displayed. Continue to press
SCROLL to review additional saved samples.

NOTE - SEND can be used as a REVERSE SCROLL key. Pressing SEND will result in the
display of the previous sample (or sample number). The flashing tick mark will also be
updated to indicate what sample (or sample number) is being displayed.
The gauge will display End when all values have been displayed.
H.5.2 – Using the RS232 Computer (PC) Interface
RS232 sample data is returned in the following format:
[Sample Number],[Instantaneous force value],[Compression peak value],[Tension peak value]
[CR][LF]
NOTE: The individual force values are sent in the identical format as detailed in the FDIX User
Manual.
H.5.2.1 - RS232 Memory Recovery Command Summary
Wagner Protocol (Gauge RS232 Functions 1- 4)
