WCHA ANNOUNCES ONE-GAME SUSPENSIONS FOR
ALASKA ANCHORAGE’S MASON MITCHELL AND ALASKA’S AUSTIN VIETH
Each will miss their institution’s next NCAA Division I game
EDINA, Minn. – Jan. 17, 2017 – The Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Men’s League office
today announced one-game suspensions for Alaska Anchorage sophomore forward Mason Mitchell and
Alaska junior forward Austin Vieth. The suspensions, resulting from supplemental discipline, will be
effective for the next NCAA Division 1 contests for the Seawolves and Nanooks, respectively.
Mitchell’s suspension is a result of a blindside hit at the 4:58 mark of the first overtime period of Alaska
Anchorage’s game of Saturday, Jan. 14 at Michigan Tech. No penalty was called on the ice; however,
upon further review, the hit was delivered in a manner that warranted the suspension.
Vieth’s suspension is a result of his game misconduct infraction for contact to the head, which occurred
at the 17:18 mark of the second period in Alaska’s game of Saturday, Jan. 14 at Ferris State. Upon review,
the contact occurred in a manner that warranted the suspension.
Alaska Anchorage’s next scheduled game is Friday, Jan. 20 at Northern Michigan, while Mitchell would be
eligible to return for the Seawolves’ Saturday, Jan. 21 contest against the Wildcats. Alaska’s next
scheduled game is Friday, Jan. 20 at Bowling Green, while Vieth would be eligible to return for the
Nanooks’ Saturday, Jan. 21 contest against the Falcons.
