the meaning of victory on eid ul fitr

“THE MEANING OF VICTORY ON EID UL FITR”
(25th June 2017 / 01 Shawwal 1438)
FELLOW CONGREGANTS, MUSLIMIN AND MUSLIMAT, MAY
ALLAH’S BLESSINGS BE ON US,
I call my dear fellows and myself, let us together strengthen our devotion
to Allah SWT by doing all His commands wholeheartedly and leave all His
prohibitions. Hopefully we will be blessed with happiness in this world and
victory in the hereafter. In the beautiful Eid morning, khatib will deliver a
sermon titled : “The Meaning of Victory on Eid ul Fitr”.
1
MUSLIMIN AND MUSLIMAT, BLESSED BY ALLAH SWT,
Alhamdulillah, we are grateful to Allah SWT for the blessings of His
grace that we can once again gather in His home to celebrate Eid. Today is the
day of victory meant for Muslims for successfully performing fasting during the
month of Ramadan.
Hopefully the main goal of fasting during Ramadan really makes us the
righteous and remain the Muttaqin then gain success in this world and in the
hereafter. The words of Allah in Surah Ali Imran, verse 133:
Which means: “And hasten (in doing good deeds so as) to earn the forgiveness
of your Lord and a Garden as wide as heaven and earth, prepared for those
who are God-conscious”.
MUSLIMIN AND MUSLIMAT, BLESSED BY ALLAH SWT,
A month ago, we have gone through a spiritual process that is physically
and spiritually challenging. It is nothing but to train and educate our desires in
various aspects of life such as love for food, property, lust, entertainment and
many more.
Today, 1st of Shawwal is here and the challenge is more, which is to
maintain and preserve the success of this Ramadan until it is reunited with
another Ramadan next year. Therefore, it is very important that we fill the
beginning of this Shawwal with good deeds according to the Sunnah of the
Prophet SAW.
2
MUSLIMIN AND MUSLIMAT, BLESSED BY ALLAH SWT,
The taqwa of a believer after the process of cleansing the soul throughout
Ramadan is assessed through his determination, willpower or istiqamah in
performing the commands of Allah SWT after Ramadan has ended.
It is unfortunate if the Muslims themselves who are always summoned to
be cautious, never mind to understand what is meant by taqwa. The scholars,
including some of the Companions of the Prophet SAW, have explained taqwa
with various means and meanings to help Muslims to realize it.
Taqwa – according to the interpretation of Saidina Ali R.A is realized in
for things namely;
(fear of Allah SWT),
(performing by Allah’s command),
(redha with a little) and
(ready for the day of death). Obviously, the search for
taqwa has no end.
Practically, what is meant by Saidina Ali R.A requires the true belief of
the aqidah (faith), the true syariah practice, the purity of Thoriqoh Nabawiyah
and the combined result of all the pillars of Islam; Iman, Islam and Ihsan.
Hence, a Muslim shall be denied on his claims of his taqwa if he himself does
not want to defend the true akidah inherited from Rasulullah SAW in order to
please the hearts of infidels and winning their support. The word of Allah SWT
in Surah An-Nisa, verse 138-139:
Which means: “Give news to the hypocrites that for them there is a grievous
chastisement”. (That is) those who choose the unbelievers for their friends
rather than the believers. Are they (the hypocrites) seeking glory and honour at
3
their hands? Surely all might and glory belongs to Allah (which He gives to
whom He pleases)”.
MUSLIMIN AND MUSLIMAT, BLESSED BY ALLAH SWT,
In addition to the firmness of the aqidah, every practice performed must
also be sincere because of Allah SWT and persist. These attitudes are preferred
by Allah SWT and the believers are successful people. Allah SWT says in
Surah An-Nur, verse 52:
Which means: “And those who obey Allah and His Messenger, those who fear
Allah and are conscious of Him, it is such as these who shall surely triumph”.
However, our victory on Eid ul Fitr does not mean as if we are having
festival celebrating the departure of Ramadan. The celebration is a symbol of
our gratitude for the mujahadah performed over the past month. In addition, we
shout takbir and tahmid as the signs of conviction.
Most importantly, we must maintain consistency in practicing virtues and
earnestly abandoning the disadvantages so there is no room for devils and evil
passion to separate between the rights and the wrongs. After all, the heart that
has been raised with the meaning of sincerity and purification of the sinfulness
of sin will be revived by Allah SWT back to fitrah. The word of Rasulullah
SAW narrated by Ibn Majah from Abu Umamah R.A:
Which means: “Abu Umamah narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said:
"Whoever spends the nights of the two Eid in praying voluntary prayers, seeking
reward from Allah, his heart will not die on the Day when hearts will die.”.
4
Yes, on the day of resurrection, those who believe and do righteous deeds
are blessed by Allah SWT with a living heart full of joy and happiness because
good rewards are given and blessed by Allah SWT. On the contrary, those who
disbelieve, their hearts die, in the state of emptiness and frustrated by the wrath
of Allah SWT and will be sentenced with the worst punishments.
MUSLIMIN AND MUSLIMAT, BLESSED BY ALLAH SWT,
The purification of the heart with the righteous charity that is sprinkled
with iman and taqwa will produce constant istiqamah on the side of those who
are obedient to Allah SWT. After all, istiqamah forms the highest quality of
character as exhibited by Rasulullah SAW. Therefore, every action of worship
such as congregation prayers, qiamullail, reading Al-Quran, alms, fasts and
seeking forgiveness from Allah SWT must be continued.
The scholars insist that those who continue the efforts, be patient and
istiqamah in maintaining good deeds after Ramadan, prove the acceptance of
Allah SWT on their practices. Among the practices that demonstrate the success
of one’s taqwa is to perform sunat fast for six days, either consecutively or
alternatively within Shawwal. Rasulullah SAW says:
Which means: “Abu Ayyub narrated that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said:
"Whoever fasts Ramadan then follows it with six days of Shawwal, it is as if he
fasted for a lifetime.”.
MUSLIMIN AND MUSLIMAT, BLESSED BY ALLAH SWT,
The assembly today demonstrates the greatness and high level of Islam in
our country. Therefore, our presence in the mosque on this blessed morning will
5
surely have a thousand meanings. See, we have been chanting the words of
Allah SWT, we bow down together as a gesture of gratitude and now we hear
the advice of the religion as a guide of life. Soon after, we will be forgiving
each other with our relatives and friends. This phenomenon is the proof of our
strength and victory as strong Muslims.
However, how joyful us are today, let’s not overlook the fate of our
relatives who are still saddened by the shortcomings and tests on them. Spread
your hands to help as far as we can to keep them happy on this Eid.
As we celebrate this Eid ul Fitr soon after, please keep the manners as
Muslims in the context of social interaction with non-mahram and entertain
with various programs until it defects the Shawwal’s glory.
MUSLIMIN AND MUSLIMAT, BLESSED BY ALLAH SWT,
Ending today’s sermon, mimbar wants to invite the congregation to appreciate
the essence of the sermon delivered as a guide in our lives, including:
First:
Eid ul Fitr is celebrated as a sign of thanksgiving and victory over
the success of fasting during a month of Ramadan.
Second:
The real success or victory of the faithful believer is when acquiring
taqwa by pursuing righteous deeds all the time.
Third:
Eid ul Fitr is the arena to reinforce the silaturrahim among us.
Which means: “And those who were conscious of their Lord shall be led to
Paradise in crowds. When they come to it, its gates will be opened; and its
keepers will welcome them saying: People be upon you; well have you done.
Enter this Paradise and dwell in it forever. (so they enter)”. (Surah az Zumar
verse 73)

SECOND KHUTBAH
FELLOW CONGREGATION, BLESSED BY ALLAH SWT,
On this blissful day, let us express our gratitude for the blessings of Iman
and Islam endowed by Allah SWT. Indeed, Eid ul Fitr is to be celebrated with
gratitude and various charity that Allah SWT favor.
Eid ul Fitr also gives us the opportunity to build a link of love amongst
us. Through the fitrah zakah and property zakah that we have paid in Ramadan,
cheerfulness and joy radiate in the faces of poor people to equally celebrate this
day of victory. Mimbar also would like to thank zakah institutions throughout
the country for their excellent management of zakah resources. The word of
Allah SWT in Surah At Taubah, verse 103:
Which means: “Take alms from their wealth, so that they may thereby be
cleansed (of sins) and purified (from bad conduct), and pray for them, for truly
8
your prayers will give them comfort. And (remember) Allah is Most Hearing,
Most Knowing”.
MUSLIMIN AND MUSLIMAH, BLESSED BY ALLAH SWT,
Today, let us multiply the selawat and salam towards Rasulullah SAW,
as a sign of love and affection for him for delivering Islam to us through various
forms of sacrifice and jihad. The word of Allah SWT in Surah Al-Ahzab, verse
56:
Which means: “Truly Allah and His angles shower blessings on that Prophet
(giving him honour and graces). O Believers! Bless him and greet him with a
worthy salutation.”
9
Ya Allah, we begged for Thy mercy and protection, our country and its entire
people to remain in peace and prosperity. Instill a sense of affection between
us. Preserve the unity among us, we wish to always live in peace, prosper and
secure of all time.
