STUDENT EMPLOYEE LEARNING OUTCOMES PROGRAM Fort Hays State University -- Division of Student Affairs Student employees provide much of the support we need in our offices to get things done. Without their help we would struggle to get through the day. Students are important because they help us achieve success. We, as members of the Division of Student Affairs, also have a responsibility supporting and helping students become successful. Through personal relationships and in diverse work environments, we motivate students to think globally, to discover their potential, and to develop their unique talents. A program has been created for student employees in the Division of Student Affairs to help students learn, grow, and develop. It is called the Student Employee Learning Outcomes Program, and it is designed to give students the tools to do their current jobs better and to develop life skills that will remain with them long after graduation. Some of these life skills are time management, decision making, customer service, project management, teamwork, communication, and motivation. A team of fellow Student Affairs professionals has been working to develop this program. Specific skill areas have been developed for students to use to develop their personal skill levels. Here’s how it works! Student employees are invited to sign up for the skill area topic for the semester. Students attend up to three one-hour presentations on the skill area. Students complete a short assessment form to self-evaluate their learning of the skill. This spring, the skill area of concentration will be Self Image Management. The presentations and trainings will focus on specific self image management such as change and adaptablity skills, interviewing skills, and attitude and work ethic on the job. Upon the completion of each presentation, a verification slip will be given to student participants. This verification slip should be given to you, the supervisor, as proof of attendance. Students will be paid their regular hourly wage while they attend each presentation. Following completion of all three skill area topics, students will be recognized and awarded a certificate of completion. Additional supporting information for each topic, including Power Point presentations and videos, is located on the Student Affairs website: http://www.fhsu.edu/vp/Student-Employee-Learning-Outcomes-Committee/. Continue to scroll down for a description of each topic, as well as dates, times, and locations of each presentation. Participation is not mandatory, but is highly recommended. Attendance in this opportunity requires registration. To register please have your student employee(s) complete and submit the registration form on the Student Employee Learning Outcomes Committee website: http://www.fhsu.edu/vp/Student-Employee-Learning-Outcomes-Committee/ If registration is received before Monday February 14, 2011, a free gift is given to the student employee!
