The department occupies three rooms; one equipped with a variety of keyboards, ukuleles and percussion
instruments and another with 24 Apple Mac computers all with Logic, Sibelius, Garageband and MIDI
keyboards.
KS3 students study Music for one 50 minute period per week (two period for year 7s). They study a range of
musical genres through a variety of activities encompassing listening, composing and performing.
Music is an options subject taught at KS4. GCSE students follow the OCR specification and have three
periods per week to study.
Music is a successful subject at Werneth School with achievement rates well exceeding national levels 87%
A*-C in 2014.
We have a thriving extra-curricular programme at Werneth. Our Senior Band has a membership of over 50
students and we also run popular singing groups, a swing band and a variety of smaller ensembles from
rock groups to woodwind quartets. There are performances throughout the school calendar and we also run
a bi-annual foreign tour.
