Information
Little Angels is an independent nursery school established in Sheffield since 1998, and
ever since we have prided ourselves in providing a high standard of child care, as evidenced
by our OFSTED reports, a copy of which is available at www.ofsted.gov.uk or feel free to
ask at reception. We hold written policies and procedures on the day to day running of the
nursery which the management and staff rigorously follow to ensure that all of our high
standards are maintained. Every member of staff attends regular training sessions to
further their knowledge.
Pre-school years are the most important years of a child’s life. Parents naturally want the
best possible environment in which their child can develop and flourish. Little Angels is a
safe, well equipped nursery located in beautiful grounds, where every child experiences a
variety of stimulating and exciting activities to suit their individual needs.
All members of staff have a wealth of experience in child care, and are fully qualified or
currently working towards a Level 3 childcare qualification. Our members of staff at
Little Angels are all friendly, approachable and are loved by the children.
At Little Angels we promote quality childcare which provides the best in play, care and
educational practice. The children are divided into four age groups, each one providing
tailored education and nurturing. We provide an environment where children are cared for
in a number of small groups. Activities are carefully planned to stimulate and enhance each
child’s full social, intellectual and physical potential. All of our classrooms are bright,
cheerful and always full of fun!
At Little Angels we operate an equal opportunities policy ensuring that staff, children and
parents are never discriminated against on the grounds of religion, gender, race, language
or disability. Everyone is treated as an individual to ensure that all needs are met to the
best of our ability.
Children’s work is play, children have fun at Little Angels and we believe happy children
learn well.
Cherubs
3 months- 1 year.
In Cherubs we work to a ratio of:
1 member of staff to 2 Babies (less than 6 months)
1 member of staff to 3 Babies (over 6 months)
In our Cherubs room, we place great emphasis on a calming and caring atmosphere where
babies very soon feel secure and at ease in our colourful happy play space.
Every activity is organised to meet each child’s individual needs. We spend time with
Parents and Carer’s to find out as much as possible about each child to ensure a smooth
transition between home and nursery.
Our well stocked, age appropriate equipment helps each baby develop cognitive and sensory
skills, hand eye co-ordination and the beginning of language development.
All babies are given the opportunity to take part in creative and art activities. We spend
lots of time outdoors, enjoying the fresh air in our safe and picturesque garden. We also
enjoy going on outings to the park.
We have a comfortable sleep room where babies may rest in the day. Our sleep room
consists of cots, bouncers and slumber cushions.
We do ask you to provide meals and bottles for your child, but we do provide the nappies,
cotton wool and wipes.
Our Nursery Nurses are always happy to help if you have any queries.
Wings
1-2 years
In wings we work to a ratio of:
1 member of staff to 3 children.
In wings we provide a wide range of experiences for toddlers who are eager to learn more
about the environment around them.
The wings room caters specifically for children at this early stage who are eager to learn
new skills of sharing and playing alongside other children. The toys and equipment we
provide offer a wide range of developmental experiences.
Shape sorters, inset jigsaws, large and small building bricks, wheeled toys, sit and ride
toys and many more, aid development, but most importantly give the children immense
enjoyment.
Language and speech development is encouraged, both individually and in group activities
through stories, singing and music time.
We also have a wide selection of toys for the children to explore in our safe and secure
outdoor play space and offer outings to the park and trips to the library.
We have a quiet area where children can sleep or relax, complete with slumber cushions.
The Nursery Nurses encourage children to sit at the table to eat snacks and meals which
are made fresh on site every day.
Nappies, wipes and cotton wool are also provided by the nursery.
Halos
2-3years
In Halos we work to a ratio of:
1 member of staff to 4 children.
Halos is a time for preparing your child for pre-school by providing varied activities which
are split between child led and adult initiated.
Halos children are now at the stage in their development when relationships, especially
with other children, become extremely important.
Halos staff support children to develop independence through activities which enable them
to have fun while also developing their personal, social and emotional skills.
For example; group time, where the children partake in story-telling, singing, interactive
mathematics, arts and crafts, baking and messy play; all of which contribute to children’s
all round development.
Children in Halos will also begin potty training and staff will work in partnership with
parents and carers to ensure toileting experiences are successful.
Halos has a slightly more structured routine than used in the younger classes and
through our Key worker system, it is adapted to meet every child’s needs.
Children’s progress is monitored through staff observation and assessments and all
children will undertake planned activities to ensure they reach their full potential.
Angels
3-5 years
Pre-school room
In Angels we work to the ratio of:1 member of staff to 8 children
Now begins the time for preparing your child for school by providing a structured and
child-led daily routine. Angel’s children are encouraged to develop their own independence
and confidence, thus building their self esteem and in turn respect for others.
The activities that form part of an ordinary day in Angels include; fun interactive
mathematics where the children learn about numbers, colours and shapes, literacy through
sharing stories and the encouragement of mark making and writing, arts & crafts and
creative play provide an opportunity for the children to express themselves and encourage
the development of their imagination.
Nursery Nurses plan activities based on the Early Years Foundation Stage seven areas of
learning.
The Prime Areas: Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social
and Emotional Development create the foundations for learning.
The Specific Areas: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts
and Design promote further development opportunities and strengthen the prime areas.
Learning through play is an exciting and enjoyable process, enabling children to explore
their environment from different perspectives. We have a computer and Bee-Bot in the
classroom and children are encouraged to develop their ICT skills.
We hold termly parent’s consultations to ensure you are fully informed of your child’s
progress and work in partnership with you to set future planned learning and development,
next steps targets.

This fully equipped space gives your child the chance to explore the great outdoors. We
have a range of outdoor equipment and take the indoor provision outside to offer new
experiences in a new environment.
The children love to plant a variety of flowers and vegetables in the vegetable patches.
We also have a mini beast garden alongside large climbing equipment and bikes.
Some examples of our EYFS structured outdoor planning includes water painting, chalk
drawing, big block building; all to encourage the development of hand eye co-ordination.
On warmer days the children appreciate regular outdoor library time also, as well as fun
days out to the park.
We understand the importance of children gaining new experiences and therefore we
encourage outdoor play whatever the weather.
