Who is the Playwright?
• Play writer
Shakespeare, was
an English poet and
writer. By many he
was known as the
greatest writer in
the English
language, and the
world’s most
significant
dramatist.
Shakespeare’s Influences In His
Movement
• Shakespeare rather than
being influenced by a
certain person in
particular, he was
influenced by earlier
writings of multiple
different people.
• He may have took ideas
from other writers, but
the greatness of his
imagination and language
made the plays his own.

Shakespeare’s Cultural Influences
and Defining Characters
• Shakespeare was most likely
influenced by earlier writings.
He was also inspired by the
world around him. His works
consist of different sights and
sounds, political struggles, and
fear of disease. His awareness
of the country side was obvious
as well. Shakespeare would
often include descriptions of
deep forest, flowers, and
traditions of ancient rural
people.
Most of Shakespeare’s
plays are mostly
categorized as comedy,
tragedy, and histories. An
example of one of his
comedies would be The
Merchant of Venice and
A Midsummer’s Night
Dream. One of his
famous tragedies is
Romeo and Juliet. His
history plays were focused
on kings or people of
royalty, for example one
play would be Coriolanus.
Shakespeare's Birth and Death
• Historians believe Shakespeare was born
on April 23rd, 1564 and died on April 23rd,
1616.
When Did Shakespeare’s Style
Come About?
• There is no evidence of his whereabouts or
activities; this period is known as
"Shakespeare's Lost Years."
little is known of what he did in the years
between 1585 and 1592. Plays attributed to
him were being performed on the stage by
1592, so all that can be said is that he
started his writing career before then.
Importance of Shakespeare
• Shakespeare is the one of
the most popular dramatist
and poet to come up fro the
western world. His ability
to sum up human emotions
in simple yet well-expressed
verses is one of most
important reasons of his
popularity. He was also a
wonderful story teller.
Modern story tellers still
use Shakespeare's works in
a way to connect to our
modern world.
Where Did
Shakespeare
Live?
• William Shakespeare
spent most of his life in
two cities; the first being
Stratford, where he was
born and spent the first
twenty years of his life.
He then moved to London
for the next twenty-five
years. He acted and wrote
plays there before going
back to Stratford where
he later died.
How are Shakespeare's Play
Relevant Today
• William Shakespeare
is a very important and
well known person in
today’s society.
Students are still
taught about
Shakespeare’s works.
Shakespeare’s work
helped set a precedent
for the development of
modern dramas and
plays. He is known for
being one of the first
writers to use modern
prose in his writings.
Shakespeare’s style
didn’t really differ
from the typical
writing in his days.
His sonnets were
written in unrhymed
iambic pentameter,
and his plays were
composed using
blank verse.
