At 10.30 the first matches started at the TC Bakkum Dutch Junior

Day report Friday the 1st of July: Who will reach the final weekend?
At 10.30 the first matches started at the TC Bakkum Dutch Junior Open. The weather
was cloudy, but the most important thing that it was dry when the players were ready
to play. Unfortunately this was not the case for the whole day, because the rain
was a troublemaker.
Sebastian Baez (Arg) and Nikolay Vylegzhanin
(Rus, 8) started their match at centre court. Baez
won his second round match against the first
seeded German Molleker and is an outsider for the
title. The 8th seeded Russian was the better player
in the beginning, by winning the first set with 6-4.
But the South American is mentally very strong and
fought back into the match. In that kind of view it
was a copy of his match against Molleker, because
Baez won the second set with 6-0. In the final set
it seems to be that Vylegzhanin was mentally broken, since Baez was 5-1 ahead. But nerves and
mistakes took the overhand to the Argentinian: he
failed to win his match point and the Russian got
back to 5-4. At that moment Baez played a very
strong game and succeeded to win the match: 6-4.
Baez will play the winner of the match
between Constant de la Bassetiere from France
(6th seeded) and the Belgian Zizou Bergs (3th
seeded). They are both top-100 players on the ITF
ranking, so the predictions were high before. De la
Bassetiere and Bergs makes the expectations
come true. Long rallies, hard groundstrokes: a
lovely match for the spectators. The Frenchman was able to break Bergs in the first set and
won with 6-3. At that moment the match was
suspended, because of the rain. After one hour
rain delay the boys got back on the court. The
rain break seems to be positive for the Belgian: he
started very well and took the lead. He also got help
from his opponent, who got very frustrated after a
few close calls. Bergs broke the Frenchman three
times and had to accept that he got broken back
once, which resulted in a 6-3 win for the Belgian.
The start of the final set was very exciting: both
players had to face a few break points, but the
Frenchman made the errors and had to deal
with a break. The 17-year old Bergs did not
lose his serve anymore against the 18-year old
Frenchman, who tried to impress the Belgian in
the final game. But Bergs was not impressed and
won his serve game on love. Congrats Zizou!!
The last boys’ semi-final had to be played
indoors between Donski (CAN) and Vrbensky
(CZE). Donski was the one who adjusted the
quickest to the circumstances. With a combination of a big serve and a powerful forehand
he controlled the entire match. Vrbensky didn’t
get the chance to find any sort of rhythm. The
match ended quickly in favour of Donski 6-2 6-2.
In the girls main draw the first match was
between the 1st seeded Japanese Ayumi
Miyamoto and the Irish Georgia Drummy. Both
girls won their first two matches in straight sets, so
for both players it seems to be their first test. But
for the Japanese the match was not a test. Within
one hour she won the match with 6-2 and 6-1.
Miyamoto will face the winner of the match
between the qualifier Helene Pellicano from Malta
and Mahak Jain from India, who is the third seed.
Pellicano, 14 years young, already played five
matches before her quarter final match against
the Indian. She showed the spectators that she
has a lot of confidence; she won the first set with
6-3 by putting a lot of pressure on her opponent
and hardly making any mistakes. In the second
set the rallies were getting longer and Jain made
less errors than the first set. She used the power
of Pellicano and was playing as a counterpuncher,
which resulted in a 6-3 win. The roles in the final
set were again totally different. The youngster
from Malta found her level of the first set and Jain
had to deal with a lot of winners for her opponent.
On centre court the Russian Lansere played her
quarter final against the thirteen year old Zoe
Kruger. Kruger was able to break the serve of the
Russian instantly and held her serve. The Russian
mixed her game up to disable the power strokes
of Kruger. Lansere continued this style of play and
was able to win the first set 6-4. At the beginning
of the second set there was a delay of play. After
the break Lansere continued her game and finally
won the second set 6-2 and reached the semi-final.
The last semi-final had to be finished indoors
due the heavy rain fall. The circumstances were
difficult for both players, but Molinaro had the
better start. She took a head start with a 4-1
score. But Piccinetti was getting used to the indoor circumstances and was able to win 5 games
in a row and win the first set with 6-4. Molinaro
was trying to get back in the match but due the
change of style she was making more errors.
Piccinetti kept her cool during the second set
and eventually won the set and the match 6-3.

Player of the Day Friday July the 1st: Ayumi
Miyamoto from Japan
Today Ayumi Miyamoto from Japan is our player
of the day. She is the highest ranked girl (no.
48) in the draw and won her single and double
match after a very long day. Her double partner
Himari Sato joins her in a short interview after
an exciting match, which ended in a win for the
Japanese girls after a super tiebreak.
It was very close, but you have played an excellent
double match. Did you play as a couple before?
Sato: “No, this is the first time that we play doubles together. Why? We have got a big Japanese
tennis team and we often switch double partners.”
You both played on the clay courts of TC Bakkum
the last days. But for this double match it was
not possible to play on clay due to the rain. Was
it difficult for you to switch from clay to indoor?
Miyamoto: “Yes, I like clay more than indoor, so it was difficult in the beginning.
But I am happy with my game, I played
well.” Sato: “For me it was easier to switch,
because I prefer to play indoor instead of clay.”
The schedule was that you play at 15.00, but
the reality was a start at 19.30. What did you do
in the meanwhile?
Miyamoto: “Actually not that much. Waiting, listening music and try to relax.”
How would you describe yourself as a player?
Sato: “Aggressive haha, because I like to attack.”
Miyamoto: “Difficult question…… I am thinking a
lot on the court, so I am more a tactical player.”
What is the difference between Japan and the
Netherlands?
Both: “We like the Dutch food very much! And
the people are so kind; much more than the
Japanese people.”
Ayumi, you will play Pellicano in the semi-final.
Do you know her?
Miyamoto: “Yes, I have seen her play this week
and she is good. “
Sato says: “I have lost against Pellicano in the
second round, so I will give Ayumi some tips
haha.”
Do you have plans for next week?
Miyamoto: “We will go to Prague to play another
grade 2 tournament.”
Final question (the girls have to catch their bus
to the hotel): what is your ambition for the future?
Sato: “To be number 1 of the WTA. I am just
14 years old, so I can improve in the future.”
Miyamoto: “I am one year older than Sato, but I
would like to become a professional tennis player.”
We wish you all the best in your double match (the
final!) and your single match against Pellicano!
