TITLE: TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR
Description:
Oversee all Tournament activities leading up to and during the Women of the World Poetry Slam.
Reports to:
Event Coordinator
Duties:
1. Oversee all tournament activities leading up to and during the tournament
2. Recruit volunteers to fill Assistant Tournament Director, MC and Bout Manager positions for the
tournament and provide training and supervision for these roles
3. Communicate with Event Coordinator and Host City Volunteer Coordinator to discuss
volunteers, venues, and any other issues as they arise
4. Assist Host City Volunteer Coordinator with volunteer recruitment, assignment, and training
5. Recruit volunteers to serve as the Protest Committee and the Scoring Committee for the
tournament, and provide training and supervision for these roles
6. Determine the schedule of events for Finals, including pre-show check-in and approval of any
additional speakers or performances taking place during Finals
7. Create the bout draw with PSi Secretary and Executive Director
8. Work with IT Administrator to ensure that the online scoring system is in place and the bout
draw is included
9. Create a bout schedule including locations, times, participations, and order of rotation, and
make it available to all participants prior to the tournament
10. Prepare all tournament documentation and ensure that copies are available for each bout
11. Tour venues with Event Coordinator, Assistant Tournament Director, Host City representative,
Venue Managers, and Accessibility Liaison to ensure that all needs are met prior to the bouts
12. Conduct volunteer trainings with Bout Managers, MCs, Protest Committee, Scoring Committee,
and Timekeepers/Scorekeepers and supervise them
13. Attend event orientation and give brief review of tournament structure and rules
14. Ensure that all bouts are staffed with trained volunteers and are supplied with bout bags,
including all bout supplies, and work with volunteers to bring the bout bags to tournament
headquarters at the close of bouts each night
Required Skills (Minimum Qualifications):
1. Familiarity with the rules of poetry slam and tournament structure.

Keyboarding/Windows/Excel proficiency.
Experience (1-3 years) of proven accomplishment working in event management.
Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of people in all levels of the organization.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to work successfully in a loosely structured self-guided environment.
Ability to effectively perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
Experience training and supervising staff
Compensation:
This is a contract position that includes a $1000 stipend. All travel and supply expenses covered.
