Last week in a glance:
Varsity soccer played Antonian Tuesday, February 7th. The girls may have fell alittle short but the girls
played hard throughout the game and they had great fans behind them the whole way. It’s time to look
forward and get ready for the playoffs. We believe in our soccer Shamrocks!
Softball scrimmaged Taft Tuesday, February 7th. Our Shamrocks beat the Raiders 12-0 in 7 innings. Way
to go girls, keep it up!
Tennis played at Saint Mary’s Hall Tuesday, February 7th. The tennis team remains undefeated with a
great win over Saint Mary's Hall on February 7. #1 singles player Elina Osherow won her match 6-1, 6-1,
while Avelina Petri played a long, close match at #2 singles, ultimately losing 6-4, 5-7, 7-10. In doubles,
Genevieve Fleming & Monica Hinojosa won 0-6, 6-4, 10-6; Catalina Lopez & Maria Ramos won 1-6, 6-2,
10-5; Fernanda Meneses & Alexis Acevedo won 7-5, 6-2; and Natasha Diaz-Escobar & Natalia Camacho
won 6-7(8), 6-1, 10-4.
Tennis played in the Edison tournament at McFarlin Thursday, February 9th and Friday, February 10th.
The tennis team did an awesome job and played many matches at the Edison High School Tournament
on February 9th and 10th, and at the finals on Saturday the 11th. On Varsity, Elina Osherow was the girls
singles tournament champion, and Avelina Petri won the consolation bracket. In doubles, Genevieve
Fleming & Monica Hinojosa reached the semifinals. For JV, Natasha Diaz-Escobar & Natalia Camacho
were the girls doubles tournament champions, and Katherine Kennedy & Andrea Gonzalez won
consolation. In JV singles, Alexis Acevedo made it to the semifinals, and Ava Wynn made it to the
quarterfinals.
Basketball played St. Joseph’s Saturday, February 11th at home. These girls dominated the whole game,
at the half IW was up 35-14 and finished big with a 72-26 WIN! Sophia Ramos finished with 25 points,
Olivia Balderas had 20, Kendall Villarreal with 12, and Makayla Mabry added 10 points to the board! Our
Shamrocks are going into the regional tournament 1st in our district! The road to State looks good! Way
to go basketball!
Softball scrimmaged at Edison Saturday, February 11th. They beat Edison, but lost to Laredo and Uvalde.
All scrimmages are only 3 innings. It may have not been the result they wanted but it’s a great start to
another successful season coming up!
Swim went to state on Saturday, February 11th. Congratulations to Sophia Croley, Olivia Croley, Sevilla
Muniz, Mariela Betancourt, Rory Escobedo, Nickole Sandoval, and Julia Aristotelidis on making it to
State. The Shamrock community couldn’t be prouder! And a special congratulations to Olivia Croley for
placing 3rd in the 50-yard freestyle at State! Please read this article by MySA about Olivia Croley and how

This week in Athletics:
Congratulations to Briana Zunker on signing her letter of intent to play soccer at Trinity University. We
are so proud of you! Way to go Briana!
Softball will play Steele on Tuesday, February 14th. JV will play at 5:00pm at IWHS and varsity will follow
at 7:30pm at UIW. Softball is ranked #3 in the city starting the regular season! Go cheer on your favorite
softball players into #1 in the city!
Soccer will play in their last regular season game at St. Anthony on Tuesday, February 14th at 4:30pm.
Good luck girls, leave it all out on the field!
JV golf will play in their last tournament this year all day Wednesday, February 15th at Devine Golf
Course. Thank you for your all your hard work and dedication this season, you all are awesome!
Track will compete in their 1st meet this year hosted by Edgewood on Thursday, February 16th. We can’t
wait to see what successes this season will bring to our track athletes. Run Shamrocks run!
Basketball will be traveling to College Station to play in the Regional tournament. They will be playing
Friday, February 17th at 7:00pm at College Station High School gym #1 against TBD. If they win they will
play at 1:00pm Saturday, February 18th to go to State. We are all supporting you and rooting for you!
Fans, take a fun road trip to see your favorite Shamrock basketball athletes! Wear your GREEN, and be
LOUD! Good luck girls!

PINK OUT: Softball will play Madison Tuesday, March 28th at UIW.
GOLF REGIONALS: Monday, April 10th- Tuesday, April 11th at Silverhorne.
GREEN OUT: Softball will play Antonian Monday, April 17th at UIW.
SENIOR NIGHT: Softball will play St. Anthony Thursday, April 20th at UIW. Golf seniors will be honored
this night as well.
GOLF STATE: Monday, April 24th- Tuesday, April 25th at Wildflower CC in Temple, TX.

and the other is for parents/guardians to take on their child's head coach. Please wait to take the survey
if you are in the middle of the season or just beginning your season. I will make sure to include the
survey's links in the Athletic News every week so you will have easy access to links when your season is
completed.
