Work and Learn is a NO COST program for eligible young adults seeking to gain work experience, enter the job
market, complete educational goals, and prepare for a career. This program might be the right fit for you if:
 You are 16-24 years old and NOT current attending school OR are attending or want to enroll in an adult
education program to earn your High School Equivalency Diploma (GED®/HiSET®) or Adult High School
Diploma and prepare for a career
What can Work and Learn do for me?
 Provide you with honest feedback about your employment readiness to help you find and keep a job
 Cover the cost of occupational training certificate courses to prepare you to find work in a field you love
 Teach you how to market your skills to potential employers and help you identify job opportunities
 Help you identify potential career options you’re interested in pursuing and guidance on “next steps”
 Provide opportunities to engage in work-based training such as a paid or unpaid work experience, on
the job training, or internships to gain experience, learn new skills and earn money
 Provide mentoring and one year of follow along support after your employment goal is reached
How do I get started?
Attend information session or orientation appointment
Complete Program Suitability Application
Schedule enrollment appointment and bring required paperwork
Meet with advisor to set goals, complete academic and career assessments
Complete soft skills and job readiness training
Participate in Program
(Education, Career Exploration, Training, Internships, Support, Mentoring, etc.)

To be eligible for Work and Learn (WIOA out-of-school youth program),
you must meet the following requirements:
⃝ 16 to 24 years old AND
⃝ Resident of Mecklenburg County AND
⃝ Be a citizen, permanent resident, or have a right to work in the United States AND
⃝ Out of School (students in adult basic education classes, AHS, GED or HSE prep classes can be eligible)
AND at least one of the following:
⃝ School dropout (within school age but has not attended for at least a calendar quarter) OR
⃝ Offender (an individual who is subject to the juvenile or adult justice system) OR
⃝ Homeless, a runaway, in foster care or has aged out of the foster care system OR
⃝ An individual who is pregnant or parenting OR
⃝ An individual with a disability OR
⃝ Low income individual who is basic skills deficient (below 9.0 on TABE) or an English language learner

Completed Program Suitability Application (available at www.cpcc.edu/ccr/work or from program staff)
Social Security Card – Original, signed by participant, un-laminated
Birth Certificate - Original
Driver’s License or Picture ID Card (proof of residence)
 Examples: Learner’s Permit, Government ID, DMV/State ID card, school ID, etc.
 If the address on your ID does not match your current address please bring a document with your name
and current address such as a bill, government document or paystub.
Proof of Citizenship / Right to Work
 Birth Certificate, Passport, Permanent Residence Card (Green Card), or work permit.
If male, age 18 or older: Selective Service Registration Confirmation (Letter printout from www.sss.gov)
Public Assistance Verification: TANF (Work First), SNAP (Food Stamps), SSI, etc. (if applicable)
 Letter from agency including amount received per month, we can help you obtain this document
Income Verification (if applicable)
 If you have worked recently please provide proof of the last 6 months OR proof of public assistance
School Records, please submit your most recent diploma or transcript if you graduated from high school
Pregnant/Parenting (if applicable)
 Please bring birth certificates for child(ren), if currently pregnant with first child no specific document is
required
