Fields, tracks, roads, gates and stiles. Some steep sections and includes a long
length along the Salter Fell track over exposed moorland hills. This walks
passes through some farmland so be wary of livestock and keep dogs on a
lead. No/very limited mobile phone coverage.

Lancashire Witches Walk: Day 5 – Slaidburn to High Salter via Salter Fell
Map A Walk Description
For most of this day you walk through
the heart of the Bowland Fells and on
a clear day the views from the Salter
Fell Track are stunning.
1 GPS: SD 7138 5234
Before you set off look out for Tercet
Five in the car park. Starting from the
car park, take a right onto the road and
keep ahead. Turn right passing the
Hark to Bounty pub. Keep ahead for a
short way and take a right once you
reach a path into the woodland (just
after the health centre) and follow the
path next to the river.

Over a wooden stile and continue on
the path ahead until you reach a
double wooden gate. Then keeping to
the right fence edge keep ahead.

Through a wooden gate. Keep to the
right hand wall until it ends and then
turn right towards Myttons Farm.
Continue through a wooden gate and
into the farmyard.

Turn left out of the farmyard and
follow the track out to the lane. Turn
right and follow the lane uphill passing
Higher Wood House Farm till you
reach the fell gate.

Through the fell gate and turn right to
continue along the track. Ignore the
bridleway off to your left and continue
ahead to the next gate and through it.

You will now follow this track which
also follows the line of a Roman Road
for several miles. After you have
crossed Shooter’s Clough and as you
approach the disused Quarry you’ll
come across Tercet Six (SD 6831
5662)

Continue on over Hard Hill Top
ignoring the public footpath down to
Whitendale to the left. Over Guide
Hill and Salter Fell and High Salter
Close till you reach High Salter Farm

Over the wooden stile and keep to the
right fence edge again to reach a
wooden kissing gate and stone stile.
Then over the bridge next to the tree
and continue straight across the field to
the right field corner.
