ACTIVITY GUIDE

SAFETY & WARM UP IDEAS
Basic Safety – Never stop the bowls with your
hands or feet and be mindful of the people
alongside you.
Warm Up – This activity should take
approximately 3 minutes. Form a large circle
walk briskly. Stop for 4 x Squats and walk
briskly in the other direction, stop for 2 x
Lunges each side, then walk briskly in the other
direction. Stop and perform trunk rotation
and arm swings, and then walk briskly in the
other direction. Stop for 4 x practice swings.
This is just a guide, and different individuals
may need longer to warm up.
Draw Shot –
Picture an imaginary arc of your bowl from
the jack back to mat then roll the bowl along
that same line.

DRAW SHOT
Aim: To teach the juniors delivery & aiming.
Objective: To stop as close to the middle of the
target as possible, scoring the highest possible
score after 10 attempts.
Modifications: If juniors are having trouble
grasping the concept of the bias, place a
witches hat 2m in front of them and get the
students to roll the bowl around it and watch
the bowl come back to the target.
Easy – add cones, keep the mat in the same
position, keeping the target in the same
position each time. Play at 23m length.
Hard – keep the mat in the same position,
however move the target around it may be
straight ahead or off to one side.
Use the length of the green. Take away the
cones.
Aim: Stop as close to the middle of the target
as possible.
The winner is the person who can get the
highest score in 10 attempts
3Points: 5 points for landing in the yellow.
3 points for landing in the blue.
ELIMINATION BOWLS
Aim: To teach the juniors weight control
Objective: To roll your bowl through a target
and stop in a specific area. This is an
elimination game, the last one standing is the
winner.
Modifications
Easy – keep the mat in the same position,
keeping the target in the same position each
time. Make the target area larger. Use 23m
length
Hard – keep the mat in the same position
however move the target, it may be straight
ahead or off to one side. Use the length of the
green.
Aim: roll your bowl over the flap jack and
finish no more than 1m behind. Each player gets
one practice shot then elimination begins. If you
miss the shot you are knocked out of the game,
if you succeed you join the end of the line and
continue until there is one winner.
SOCCER
Aim: To teach the juniors weight control &
aiming
Objective: To score as many goals as possible in
the designated time.
Modifications
Easy – Place the cones further apart, giving
the junior a greater goal area to roll through.
Use 23m length.
Hard – Place the cones closer together, giving
the junior a smaller target area to get
through. Use the length of the green. Place the
cones closer to the ditch.
Aim: To score as many goals as possible in the
designated time.
You score if you go through the cones and stop
before the ditch. Play this in 2 teams seeing
which team can score the most goals. Once the
bowl passes this point the next person can have
their turn.
STOP before the ditch to count

FUN BOWLS TOURNAMENT
The first part of this tournament is played as
a round robin in sections of 3. Once you have
established a sectional winner it becomes a
knock out event.
Games can be played as a 3 end tie breaker, the
person to win 2 out of 3 ends is the winner of
that game.

Player 1 Vs Player 2 (Player 3 “Marks”- Answers
questions the player has)
Player 1 Vs Player 3 (Player 2 “Marks”)
Player 2 Vs Player 3 (Player 1 “Marks”)
Sections
4 x Sections = 12 Players
5 x Sections = 15 Players
6 x Sections = 18 Players
7 x Sections = 21 Players
8 x Sections = 24 Players
IN THE ZONE
Set up three target mats at the opposite end
of the green, and divide the juniors into 2
teams. The team that scores 20 points wins the
game. You must land on one of the targets to
score.

CORNER BOWLS
Everyone lines up to have one turn each to see
who can get closest to the corner of the
green.
When someone is close replace the bowl with a
marker and only replace it when someone gets
closer. The person closest the jack wins the
ditch.
closest TO THE DITCH
This activity can be used to finish off a session.
One at a time, roll your bowl to see who can
stop closest to the ditch on the other side of
the green.
The person nearest the ditch wins the game.
BLINDFOLD BOWLS
Divide the juniors into pairs, with one person
wearing a blindfold. Use your voice help your
partner bowl to land on the target
target.
AIM: Count the number of times you and your
partner land on the target. The pair that
lands on the target the most wins the game.
Each player bowls 8 bowls each.
BEAT THE BOWL
Roll the bowl as close to the jack as possible,
chase your bowl to the other end, your partner
takes that bowl to the start to have their
turn and repeat until whistle.
AIM: The team to score the most number of
touchers in 3 minutes wins the game.
