Learning Model Implementation: “As learners, you and I are to act and be doers of the word and not simply hearers who are only acted upon. Are you and I agents who act and seek learning by faith, or are we waiting to be taught and acted upon? We are all to be anxiously engaged in asking, seeking, and knocking.” -- Elder David A. Bednar, Seek Learning by Faith, Address to CES Educators, 2007 Evaluation: Group Teaching Project: 100 Points Students will be given the opportunity to choose how they would like to carry out the group teaching project. The student will be given the opportunity to choose one of four options to fulfill this requirement. Students will sign up for the project they choose. The options are: 1.) Group Presentation in Class (5): In groups of four, the students will prepare and present a presentation to the class on the assigned topic. Evaluation will be based on accuracy, thoroughness, creativity and ability to engage the students. The students will be given the liberty to choose how to best teach the topic. The intent is not to recite what you have learned, rather to teach the class what they need to know concerning your topic. Presentation will not exceed 20 minutes without a penalty. 2.) Group Study Outside of Class (1): This group of four will schedule, advertise and carry out one group study session per week. These sessions will be 0.5-1 hour long and scheduled to discuss/study specific topics. The group will turn in weekly reports of the study session including roll, what was discussed/studied and what the responsibilities of each group member was that week. 3.) Community Improvement Project (4): Each group of 4 will be required to research a previously-approved disease or disease related topic. The Community Improvement Project should be designed to bring awareness to the disease and educate other individuals on campus or in the community to the importance of prevention, early detection, treatment and potential dangers of your topic. The group is given freedom to create a Community Improvement Project that will add value to their educational or professional goals and personal development. Grades will be given on the effectiveness reaching these goals. Upon completion, the students will submit a summary of the Community Improvement Project. 4.) Group Research Project (4): Groups of 2-3 will research an approved topic. The groups will organize a literature search, outline the research and turn in an 8-10 page research of the most recent data concerning the topic. The project will be graded on content, grammar and documentation. Quizzes/Assignments/Case Studies: 10 x 10 Points = 100 Points Weekly assignments will be assigned prior to the material being discussed in class.
