Instructions for Completion
The Hendersonville Fire Department will allow additional points to applicants who
have proof of qualifying certifications and/or educational degrees as listed on the
attached form. The attached supplement should be completed following these
guidelines.
The certifications and/or educational degrees listed on the supplement are the
ONLY categories which will be granted additional points. Proof of certification
and/or educational degree MUST be attached to this supplement and turned in at
the time your completed application is turned in.
WE WILL NOT ALLOW ANY ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION TO BE
ATTACHED OR ANY INFORMATION ADDED TO THIS SUPPLEMENT OR
TO YOUR APPLICATION AFTER IT HAS BEEN TURNED IN TO OUR
DEPARTMENT.
There will be NO exceptions.
Because of this, it is extremely important that you thoroughly complete this form
and attach all documentation prior to returning your application to us.
(You should also make sure that your employment application contains proper
addresses (including zip codes) and phone numbers for both your references and
your employment history. Additionally, applications will be disqualified unless all
questions are answered and all blanks filled in.)
Any attempt to falsify information listed on this supplement will result in immediate
disqualification. All certifications will be verified by the appropriate agency. No
expired certifications will be accepted.
Failure to attach proof of certification and/or educational
degree will result in no points being awarded.

Hendersonville Fire Department reserves the exclusive right to make the final
determination if the applicant’s request for additional points will be awarded.
Failure to attach proof of certification or education will result in no points being
awarded.
(Extra points will only be given for the highest certification or degree obtained.)

Qualifying Firefighting Certifications
(as recognized by the State of Tennessee Commission on Firefighting)
Firefighter I – 1 point
OR
Firefighter II (or Journeyman Firefighter) – 2 points
NOTE: Out-of-state certifications must be accredited and approved by the
International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or the National Fire
Service Professional Qualifications Board (NFSPQB). The burden of proof for
credit for any out-of-state certifications is the responsibility of the applicant.
Supporting documentation must be provided verifying that the certification is
approved by the IFSAC and/or the NFSPQB.
Qualifying Medical Certifications
(as recognized by the State of Tennessee Division of EMS)
Certifications must be current and National Registry Certifications will NOT be
accepted! Reciprocity must be applied for and granted in order for the points to
be awarded, all necessary forms are online at the State of Tennessee EMS
website.
Medical First Responder or EMT/Basic – 1 point
OR
Advanced EMT – 2 points
OR
Paramedic – 3 points
Qualifying Higher Education
Associate’s Degree (any field) – 1 point
Associates Degree in Fire Science or Fire Engineering – 2 points
Bachelor’s Degree (any field) – 3 points
Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science or Fire Engineering – 4 points
Qualifying Firefighter Education
Completion of 10-week Fire Recruit Class (course #F100) at TFACA
