NEW MAP STUDENT SCORE REPORTS Why has the report been revised? 1. Assessment purpose must be clear. 2. Assessment value must exceed instructional time lost. 3. Assessment mechanics should not impact value. 4. Assessments must be fair and support equity. 2 Out with the Old 3 Out with the Old 4 In With the New MEASURES OF ACADEMIC PROGRESS (MAP) Renard’s GOAL AREA PERFORMANCE READING Student Score Sheet: Grade 4 Fall Student Score 211 Growth Target (fall to winter) 14 Goal Area Literature Informational Text Vocabulary Acquisition /Usage Winter MATHEMATICS Performance High Low Average Average 235 Goal Area Operations and Algebraic Thinking The Real and Complex Number Systems Geometry Statistics and Probability Performance Low Average Low High Average Low DESCRIPTION OF REPORT: Actual Growth (fall to winter) 24 District Average 215 220 National Average 180 195 Percentile Rank 65 67 LEXILE Range 205215 210225 The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) is a computer-adaptive assessment; therefore, each new question is based on the child’s previous response. MAP assessments are designed to measure a student's academic performance and growth from test to test in the areas of reading and mathematics. Students in grades 1 and 2 take the tests three times a year – fall, winter, and spring. Students in grades 3 through 8 take the tests in fall and winter, while kindergarten students take the tests in winter and spring. BCPS uses MAP assessments to monitor student growth at the school and system levels. The results are not used as part of student grades. No single test can give a full picture of your student’s knowledge and skills. Along with other test results, quizzes, class work, teacher observations, and other measures, MAP results will help BCPS make the best possible instructional decisions for each student. EXPLANATION OF SCORES: Fall Student Score 211 Growth Target (fall to winter) 14 Actual Growth (fall to winter) Winter 235 24 District Average 215 220 National Average 180 195 Percentile Rank 65 67 Student Score: Growth Target: actual score your student received on the assessment number of points students with the same score and grade level (nationally) increased from one test administration to the next. Actual Growth number of points your student’s score increased by from one test administration to another District Average: average student score for BCPS students in the same grade as your student National Average: average student score for students in a national sample of students in the same grade as your student Percentile Rank: how your student is performing compared to other students in the same grade nationally; for example, if a student’s percentile rank was 40, the student scored at least as well as 40 percent of other students in the same grade across the country. This is not the percentage of correct answers Lexile Range: measure of a student’s achievement in reading as it relates to the difficulty level of various books. The Lexile Web site, http://www.lexile.com, has more information about the Lexile score and provides a list of books that fall within a Lexile range. GOAL AREAS: Each MAP is made up of parts called goal areas. These goal areas are aligned to the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Goal areas are reported as percentile ranks so that you can see if your child has areas that may be strong or weak.
