THIRD BASE
Third baseman will be tested on all of their defensive abilities. We are looking for a 3B who performs
at the top of his class in all defensive categories. These skills will include fielding abilities, footwork,
hands and transfers, range, arm strength, arm accuracy and athleticism. There will also need to be a
showing of baseball IQ as well as the “intangibles”.
This testing day workout will be like no other workout you have seen before! We are pushing the
limits when it comes to providing a first class experience and opportunity for you to perform in front
of USA Baseball National Team Scouts. This test will be high-energy with a very quick pace allowing
for maximum repetitions. This format will give you a chance to show us your best effort and
performance.
As a 3B you will be following this itinerary:
 Check-in and head to Field 3 to warm up
 Join other 3B within appointed time slot
 Migrate to Field 4 Dugout for workout
 Dugout  OF  3B
 Start workout
PHASE 1
4 Ball Drill (right at, back hand, forehand, slow roller (peel off to foul territory))
Move to end of line
Once all complete 4 Ball drill move to phase 2 of workout
PHASE 2
Step up and receive 1 ball of random location (fly ball deep foul, fly ball
dugout, backhand w/ no throw)
Receive 1 ball and head to back of line dropping ball in bucket
Once 2B complete 4 Ball drill move to Phase 3
PHASE 3
Step up and receive random ground ball (right at, forehand, backhand) start
double play with throw to 2B)

Stay in (SS/2B) groups – ½ to double play SS position / ½ to Deep SS
SS Step up and turn DP with 1B receiving ground ball
Head to back of line at Deep SS

PHASE 1
Pop Times: 2 Throws to 2B and go to end of line at 2B
Once everyone completes pop times will move to phase 2
PHASE 2
Split into 3 groups (Home, 3B and 2B)
Catchers at Home will be fielding pop ups between balls to OF
All catchers will be receiving the throws from OF as if making a play at the
plate
Catchers will rotate from base to base every 3 outfielders
The new testing day format is going to allow you to display a wide range of skills. We will be
collecting pop times to see arm strength and accuracy. During Phase 2 you will be challenged to use
your athleticism and skill to make a play on those high pop ups behind home plate that can be tricky
for catchers to manage. We will also be observing your receiving and tag abilities as you field throws
from the outfield. We will use these skills observed from Testing Day as we move through the event
to scout your blocking abilities, baseball IQ, game management and leadership skills.
