Begin with 3 different balls (ping-pong, golf, basketball, tennis ball, etc.) and 3 different surfaces (tile, concrete, linoleum, grass, etc.) and a meter stick for each group or pair. Students can create a predictions sheet for which balls will bounce highest on what surface and then test it in their pairs or groups. At the end the whole group can discuss potential reasons for the results. Kickball- Students should be split into two teams (around 9 is a perfect amount to fill all positions). When a team is not kicking there should be a catcher, pitcher, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd base person and outfielders. The kickers line up and kick in order, their goal is to kick the ball to a distance where they are able to run as many bases as possible without getting ‘out’. The other team can get them out by either: catching the ball midair, tagging the running player with the ball (or the base before the runner makes it there), or if a kicker misses three decent pitches. The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins. Both teams having a turn to kick and play outfield constitutes an inning, typically a game is 6 innings. Draw and pass it on- Everyone should have a piece of paper and sit in a circle. Each player writes a short sentence on the top of their paper, then passes it to the person on their right. Each person has one minute to draw an interpretation of the sentence before passing it around for another turn. The game is over when everyone receives their original paper and share with the group. This game is fun to play with notebooks or small booklets so that other players only see the cover and their own art until the end of the game. Water TornadoSupplies (for each bottle): two plastic one liter bottles, one filled with water pitcher bowl or container paper pencil duct tape metal washer stopwatch Steps: 1. Fill 1 bottle to the top with water and place a metal washer onto the mouth of it. 2. Place the other bottle on top of the water filled bottle with the washer between the two. 3. Use duct tape to tape the bottles together and keep the washer in place. 4. Flipping the bottles creates the tornado! Name Game- Sit in a circle. One person begins by saying their name and an adjective that starts with the same letter (you can also do a food), the next person must say the name and adjective of the person before them and share their own. It gets progressively harder as you move around the circle as the list of names grows and grows, and the very last person must try to say everyone’s name and adjective. How strong is a piece of paper? – Using regular pieces of paper, fold each one into a triangle, one into a square, and one into a circle an secure them with tape. Pile small books on to each shape to see which shape can support the most weight. Students can make predictions prior to testing each piece. Bounce the Ball- Freeze Tag- The same rules as tag, but when a player is tagged they must stay frozen until another player unfreezes them by tagging them. The goal of the person who is It is to freeze all players. Dancing Raisins- Pour a clear soda into a clear glass and add a small handful of raisins into the cup, they will bob up and down around the cup!
