FOUR OF EIGHT SEEDS REMAIN AS QF PLAY BEGINS
DAY 5 PREVIEW: As quarter-final play begins on Friday, only half of the seeded players remain in the
draw, including two former champions and last year's runner-up. First to play on Centre Court is 2013
Champion Grigor Dimitrov against Kevin Anderson, who is in his second career quarter-final in
Stockholm. Dimitrov looks to claim his second title in Stockholm, and has been riding a successful win
record (20-9) since the end of June. The two have met six times on the ATP World Tour, with five of those
meetings going to Dimitrov, the last in 2014.
Next up is wild card Juan Martin del Potro against Ivo Karlovic, the former 2007 Stockholm champion.
Karlovic has not been back to Stockholm since his title win nearly 10 years ago, but returns as the No. 3
seed, having needed three sets to get past wild card Mikael Ymer in the second round. Del Potro is back
inside the Top 100 for the first time since his long absence for multiple wrist surgeries, and this season,
he has reached the gold-medal match at the Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics, as well as two semi-finals
and two quarter-finals prior to entering Stockholm.
Gastao Elias, ranked at No. 61 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, stunned top seed Gael Monfils 7-6(4), 6-1
to reach the quarter-finals, his second of the year, where he will face last year's finalist and No. 6 seed
Jack Sock. So far this tournament, Sock has weathered two three-set matches to reach the quarters,
against Malek Jaziri in the first round, followed by Dustin Brown in the second round. Elias, on the other
hand, has yet to drop a set.
The fourth and final match on Centre Court is an all-German contest between No. 4 seed Alexander
Zverev and Tobias Kamke, who is into the quarters here for the second time in his career. This is the
second time the two have met on the ATP Tour, with Zverev claiming the edge in Hamburg in 2014.
